Forums - Gaming - Gamestop: 60% of customers won´t buy a console that blocks used games

I am the 40% since I buy all new anyway to support devs.
However making a console unable to play used games is absolutely an atrocious idea and should never be implemented. It would also mean suicide for whoever tried it.

do you sell your games?

The real way to support devs. Steam is doing great, and there's no resale. The XBLA and PSN are also growing markets for this kind of digital business, which can be especially helpful to small or medium size developers without the means of mass distribution. Let's not even get into the Android and iOS marketplaces.

GameStop is being left in the past, pure and simple.

I wouldn't buy a console, if it didn't support used games... And I would probably end up buying the one that did support used game. (If sony does no used games, this imo is a great for M$ to hurt sony in a lot of regions).

I like renting and reselling games console games I don't like, and maybe buying a few exclusives, but I mainly buy on PC. Maybe I'll eat my words if a Final Fantasy is released...

60% seems pretty low, I bet the real percentage would be much higher.

I think that 60% figure sounds low actually.

If Sony or Microsoft decide to implement such technology, consumers will balk.

the competition and the media will never let people hear the end of it and that will also cause sales to sink.  "We believe that every gamer has the right to sell their used games and buy used games, unlike some of our competitors" would be just one of the high horses that would be ridden at E3

I like taking games to friends houses, loaning them to friends and knowing no matter what happens I'll be able to chuck the disc in and play. Not to mention the difficulty of getting older games or ones out of production.

The only way I'd buy a system that blocks used games was if it was easily pirateable because there is no way I would support a business model like that.
