Forums - Sony - Dream Roster: Hopes for PS4/Orbis Launch Game Releases within the first Year

With all the hype and stress surrounding Sony's upcoming 2/20 release, It has me dreaming of what games can be brought to the arena. Orbis is nearly upon us so I would like to speculate on what I think has a chance of coming to Orbis within the first year....

1. Persona 5

Likelyhood:70%

It seems many Developers felt this current gen is far to saturated and depleted to release thier products.Bungie and Ex-Infinity Ward devs have both opted to stave off this generation and release their big titles next gen, where with the cusp of new hardware their games get more lime light. I have a feeling Atlus has done the same with the Persona series. At height of popularity, P3 and P4 released far too late in PS2 life cycle. The PS3 had already been on the market, so all the media attention mostly lied in the new hardware. While both garnered much praise, I can't help but feel they squandered the opportunity to really shine, as if they had released earlier. This is why P5 might be a luanch year title for Orbis. Atlus has already made statements that the next main Persona Title will assuredly be on Playstation console. The series up to this point has remained a Playstation exclusive for all main titles and remakes. Many think they might succumb to Multiplatform development due to their test release, Catherine. This could be a valid point, but it seems to me that many Japanese Developers learned the hardway that that might not be the path for them to take, and have subsequently reverted back to releasing exclusive entries on the more Japanese oriented platforms(PS3/Wii/DS/3DS/PSP). Also, another trend to take note of is Atlus deemed the Vita worthy enough to get a Year one P4 remake release. This game has garnered much praise since it's release and will soon be coming to EU as well. It would be befitting if both of Sony's platforms got a Persona in the first year.

2. Killzone 4

Likelyhood:99.9%

This is all but garanteed for the release of the console sometime in the first year. Killzone:Mercenaries is already coming Sept 17th.........as is GTA IV. Why is this important? Because GTA is rumoured to be trying to coincide with next gen release as it will be hitting those consoles as well. Sony has attempted release parity with every big franchise that was getting a Vita and PS3 entry (AC,COD,PSASBR,etc). So if this trend is to be followed, KZ:Mercs will release alongside KZ4, the launch title for Orbis.

3. Uncharted 4

Likelyhood:100%

Yes, this will be U4 Target Render or legit Graphix :P lol. This will most likely not make Launch, but Sony will try it's damdest to make it within the first year. Uncharted is Sony's Magnum Opus/Muse/Whatever, and is toted as a demonstation of  Playstation's power and finess. They will want this to show off their Studio's remarkable ability along side KZ4. We know they have been working on this since U3, where the studio split into 2, with one team working on the eagerly anticipated Last of Us.

4.Beyond:Two Souls/The Last of Us/Puppeteer

Likelyhood:75%

Wait, what?! Aren't these titles for the PS3? Yes they are, but there are some things to take note of. Sony has been pushing a new initiative of late. They want to retain their brand while appealing to multiple markets and devices. PS Mobile for instance. PS exclusive titles that can be played on PSM approved phones as well as Vita. Or how about the new ability to access the PS Store on PC(long over due feature). And then their is the fact they want simil releases for Vita and Main Console titles as well. This all points to Sony attempting to be more open, with letting their personal IPs hit multiple platforms. I am not 100% sure on how these games will be implemented yet tho, I just know they will. We know Backwards Compatibility is becoming an issue for next gen, the fear of oncoming next gen is hurting current gen sales of games, etc. Sony might allow these games to be Cross Buy for PS3 and PS4/Orbis.

5. Media Molecule's New Game

Likelyhood:50%

These guys are masterminds and experts of their craft. They only had a team of about 15 people or so when they created one of the most acclaimed games of the generation (LBP). Sony knew they struck gold when they found them, and quickly bought them. Now they have them working on something New assuredly. LBP has been rumoured to be handed off to another dev to work on for the time being. MM is making Tearaway for Vita which is suppose to be pretty big for the system, they will want something of similar quality for Orbis.

6.Final Fantasy Versus XIII/FF XIV

Likelyhood:50%

Before you start to scoff at this one, hear me out. FFXIII was a disaster on all levels. Its Developement, its release, its quality, and its incecent sequels. Everything started to fall apart for SquareEnix. The only glimmer of hope from them for the fans(and investors) of FF was the promise of FFVersusXIII. I have no doubt in my mind that they originally were going to let this game fade into dev limbo after funneling way too much funds into XIII and their online endeavor. Yet, when that Kotaku rumour came about, their stocks were plummeting. Their future as a stable company is dependant upon them actively working on releasing this title. Just like with what I said on P5, it is sometimes better to release a game on new hardware because some of the hype always rubs off on the smaller library of games to play during its first year or so. Also, the first FF game released in a console cycle always sells the best. This has been true at least since PS1's FFVII. FFXIII-2 was not even half of XIII's sales last time I checked, Lightning Returns thought to be even lower. To release Versus XIII now on PS3, without a massive marketing campaign to try and undo all the hatred they garnered this gen, would most likely be IP suicide. Now a moving of the title to PS4, or even better, a simil release for both PS3 and 4 is ideal. Mind you, this will not be launch. SE doesn't release more than one FF title in a single year as a rule. FFXIV is due to release this year on PS3....... NOT! Will most likely have moved to Orbis as well. Regardless of what they do with XIV, Versus could hit within the first year of  Orbis, as in Holiday 2014. While I despise all SE has done revolving around this title, I have faith Nomura will have made it worth the wait.PS. Versus most likely to have a name change, to further distance it from the abomination known as FFXIII, Final Fantasy XV most likely as anything named differently is always deemed as a "spin off", which Versus is not and never was.

7. The Last Guardian

Likelyhood:65%

I am going to go ahead and say......launch title for Orbis. This game has been in development for a very long time. It sounds to me like the game was almost finished but was haulted due to game breaking bugs caused by PS3 architecture/limitations. Everyone was already thinking this and it is the most likely alternative. Sony promised that they were still indeed working on the title. Maybe we will get to see it come 2/20. This would be a really good note to start on for Orbis's debut. This game won over many a gamer's heart when it was originally unvieled. This might be a tad more wishful thinking than most of the others but so what.

8. GTA V

Likelyhood:60%

This is not a shocker. When Sony set the date for their big announcement, then Rockstar delayed GTA V until Sept 17th(possible release day of Orbis) we collectively knew what was going on. GTA V will most likely be coming to Next gen as well.....or maybe only?! Yet there is another facet of this that might seem.... strange. If GTA V is indeed going to still come to current gen consoles, I have a feeling it will be Exclusively on Orbis as far as Next Gen Consoles go. Why? Because Rockstar contractually owes Sony a game, or monetary equivilant. It was suppose to be Agent, yet that game seemingly is Vaporware of the worst kind. We, Sony, and Rockstar all know....in this current day and age and the way the market is....there is no way they can work on an exclusive title for Sony as well as still pump out GTA level Multiplatforms. So this might be the alternative Sony had been waiting for.  It wouldn't be completely exclusive in this regard, but it damn sure would be a winning hand for Orbis against Durando and possibly relieve R* of their debt to Sony.

9. Geurilla Games Sci Fi ARPG Title

Likelyhood:40%

Their have been heavy rumors of  GG working on several big budget titles. GG Cambridge which is an entire studio worth of ppl themselves is working on Mercenaries on Vita. Main GG staffers are split just like Naughty Dog is, working on multiple things. One is most likely KZ4. The other is believed to be something else. Now There are a few ways this could play out. IF GG is working on KZ4 as their launch title, their is very little chance that their other IP is a shooter of any kind, as that would be silly I think. No need to have a studio working on 3 different shooters at the same time, especially when that market is already so saturated that your own 1st Party IPs are competing with each other. ARPGs are the new big thing in Western Countries and Sony would be wise to capitalize on that. The Art dirctions for this "Mystery Title" definitely lean more towards an RPG like game.  The other possible alternative is that GG is not doing another Killzone for Orbis at launch, but instead introducing a new FPS IP in hopes of it being percieved better. This is definitely a possibility but then this shatters any idea of what the other game is.

So in all that would give Sony 1 JRPG, 1WRPG, 1FPS, 1Action Adventure, 1Sandbox OW, 2Platformer,1Horror/Survivor,1 Open Ended Action, all with decent to super successful followings behind them. And this is all potentially within the first Year. If Sony can pull off even half of these I think I will scoop an Orbis Day one.

Tell me what your Dream Roster is, as well as the likely hood of any of this coming true.

The PS2 got big exclusives after the PS3 launched and they didn't get ported to the PS3 (Final Fantay XII, God of War 2...etc)

The PS3 will keep selling better than next-gen consoles like the ps2 did. So, it's seems stupid port them. it won't sell that much on the PS4. (I may be wrong)

About The Last Guardian, the rumors say it's pretty much cancelled , we havent heard anything about it in 3 years.

I am not saying they will not release on PS3, they will. I am just saying their is a strong possibility that they will be multiplatform with the PS4 as well. Yes this means the PS3 remains relavent even after Orbis releases. Its a plus.

99% chance of KZ4 and 100% chance of Uncharted 4?

LMAO.... I think you are forgetting that KZ2 and GT5 were supposed to be released in the first year PS3 came out.

Nothing is certain at this point. We don't even know KZ4 is what GG is working on. It may be a new IP.
