That already happens a lot.

Many studios outsource parts of their games like modelling characters, vehicles, even landscapes and other things.

you just have to look though a games credits once in a while

“It appeared that there had even been demonstrations to thank Big Brother for raising the chocolate ration to twenty grams a week. And only yesterday, he reflected, it had been announced that the ration was to be reduced to twenty grams a week. Was it possible that they could swallow that, after only twenty-four hours? Yes, they swallowed it.”

- George Orwell, ‘1984’

Video games are art. Having a famous artist tell other people how to draw something isn't the same as him or her drawing it, not to mention the loss of jobs for many developers.

I think its done already, and I am sure it will be done more as other countries get experience in game devolpment. And to those worrying about the loss of jobs in the west, what about the gain in jobs in other countries. Countries that a worse standard of living and could use the income and help.

It is a good idea (cost wise for the developers/publishers) however....

You end up with games like DmC and Star Fox Assault.

Yea slave labor that gets paid nothing. Worker who get beat or killed if they try to stand up for themselfs but hey lets support it and send more jobs their. Good idea. Lets reward coutry's that don't pay sh-t and have slave conditions for their workers. Yea lets be happy about it too. My god!!!!

It doesn't work that way. China won't pay more. Most make only a $1  a day and thats not helping, it's feeding the problem. How about the UN stops allowing country's with no workers rights and slave working conditions to not allow to enter the international market. Why don't we pull them up to our level, not what you republicans want to do, Pull our workers down to china's conditions of work.

Already happens and doesn't work as well as keeping the entire creative process under 1 roof, for example the boss fights in Deus ex HR.

However if you are going to set a game in a certain culture, by all means create a studio in that part of the world to make the entire game there. That will help immersion.

Same people who are all about second hand games are the same people saying ship our jobs overseas. Yea child labor and slave conditions so I can pay less.

Some of you make me sick. YOu are so self absorbed, you could give a sh-t about anyone else.
just as long as I dont' have to buy new. Lets support people losing their jobs. Hey why we are at it lets ship every good paying job overseas. Lets make it so we get paid dirt wages. I'm going to bed. I'm going to go to my job that pays good before cheap mofo's send it over seas and think it's a great idea.

You don't have to go to extremes, instead of sending it to China and/or India, why not south america? Our salaries are way bellow the USA standard (20.000 dollars per year instead of 60.000 for an engineer) and it is not considered slavery or something like that. We work almost during the same hours and are closer to the United States. And the games will still be a western game.

By the way, outsourcing is already been done, but with parts of the development. A lot of testing teams are in India, they get the code at night, test during their working ours and send the results back, so the developers can start fixing the errors during the day.

Wow, some people are overreacting here, jeez. No need to resort to personal attacks.

I didn't mean these people should live like slaves, they could have good salaries, but obviously a good Polish salary is not the same as a good US salary. I don't think that the The Witcher developers live like slaves, and they probably do what they like. And those jobs wouldn't be lost, these countries' industry could thrive and create jobs. If the industry falls, all jobs go away anyway.

Of course I don't want to see the quality of the games compromised and I would draw the line there. This is a possible solution for a struggling industry that deserves to be discussed, that's all.
