It must be pretty hard to track Gold because not every buys them in 12 month batches. You have some that buy 3 months worth, take a month off, and then buy another 3 month card. They may be able to give an average, but exact numbers would be hard IMO.

Shouldn't be that hard with how easy it is for them to track their Xbox Live stats. They can simply just give the amount of accounts that currently have Xbox Live Gold.

Another thing that I wonder is if the 46 million includes all accounts or just the one's that have been active somewhat recently (say within half a year or so)

i would say 46 millon that have a subscription payed. doesnt matter if they are active or not. if they payed for it then thats what counts for MS

46 million people paying for XBox Live?
Sounds like the ultimate slap in the face for anyone who wishes XBL will be free.

At this rate it never will be.

It's just that simple.

46M Live Users * 57% Entertainment App Usage = 26.2M gold users.

Back from the dead, I'm afraid.

I personally believe they will be using XBL as how you pay for the NeXbox like a cellphone subscription plan with added services like DVR

Based on what I've read in the past, I think that 46 million is actually determined by active accounts. Like the number of accounts that were logged into in a given amont of time, maybe a few months.

I don't think MS will ever tell us how many Gold subscribers there are.

Yea, it was adopted late though.  I believe this will be right out of the gate, 99$ or even less up front and then pay for it yearly or monthly.  That will be huuuuuge.  I believe XBL will go up in price to $99 a year with a more media hub centric.

P.S. X360 doesnt have DVR like features just yet.  Just a few channels.  I expect that to increase a lot

It doesn't really clarify if they are only talking about Entertainment Apps that require Gold.

Huh I was under the impression that all Apps required Gold.

i think it would be a mistake to make xbox live 99$ a year. have you seen the recent reations of the media lately towards ps+ and xbox live? they basically been slaughtering xbox live and suddenly calling it a rip off, did you read the article about how "ps+ humiliates the indusrty" ? the media backslash for the increase in price would explode, 99$ is A LOT! you also have to consider (and lets be honest here) that most of those people who pay for live do so just to play online. if people see that the price doubled then that might putt them off.

MS have been experimenting with the subscibtion based model though and i wouldnt be surprised to see if they do it with the next xbox, it might actually work too. but they have to play their cards right
