Forums - Sony - Ni No Kuni: Best JRPG in about 2 decades

I don't know about being the best, but I can tell you Lost Odyssey is the most overrated.

Why do you think so?

http://gamrconnect.vgchartz.com/profile/92109/nintendopie/ Nintendopie  Was obviously right and I was obviously wrong. I will forever be a lesser being than them. (6/16/13)

It didn't bring anything new to the table. Ni No Kuni did a true example of what Pokemon games should be. Therefore LO is nothing special just another overrated JRPG,but it's still pretty good though.

I disagree, Xenoblade is the best one this gen.

What's the story like? Is it dark/epic? Or is it lighter, more whimsical? That's my only issue is that I don't want to invest 30+ hours into an RPG if the story is just "good" and not "great", I only play a few RPGs every few years so the story needs to be really impressive for me to bite otherwise I'd rather just play a different genre.

It's the same boy gets thrown into an adventure to save the world from evil trying to destroy it all, but in a lighter whimsical way. The other world contains 3 kingdoms, the first 2 ruled by his meowjesty cat king Tom and her moojesty Cowlipha.
If you like Ghilbli movies you'll probably love it, if you're looking for a dark twisted tale, don't bother. One disadvantage of this game is that my 3 year old keeps taking the controller away, according to him it's his game.

I disagree, the last best JRPG was FFX and Shadow Hearts.

But the best JRPG of all time? FF7

xenoblade got good reviews, but because it's a wii exclusive, I'll probably never play it.

why?   the system costs just a little bit more than buying a brand new game, and there are plenty of good games on the system.  Never understood why people limit themselves to one system...

As this thread has pointed out, there are exclusive games just in the JRPG category on each system that are worth playing, let alone other categories...

Well in anyones defense.  Xenoblade probably costs more to acquire than the Wii console does.

Xenoblade is definetly worth the money. I bought a Wii 3 Months ago to play all the good titles I missed and Xenoblade is the Title that made it a good purchase it really suffers being on Wii though this game would be absolutely mindblowing on HD Consoles or PC those Vistas in HD and higher res textures and high poly objects would be stunning.

The Wii was 80  the game 30 new with 5 for a PS2 Controller adapter this game alone is enough to warrant the price for a Wii. Its about 25 more than Ni no Kuni Wizard Edition , Wii included, well worth the Price. 115 well spent imo.

I have enough backlogs of games to play on my PS3, Xbox360 and a gaming PC.  I don't doubt that there are plenty of games (such as Zelda wii) on the Wii that I would play, but I don't have the time.  I would essentially get a Wii to play Xenoblade, and for me, it's not worth the money.

Truth!

Anyways, in Ni No Kuni defense, the game is like Dragon Quest, Pokemon, and Tales joined together in holy matrimony.

I'm having the "time of my death" playing platoon in the casino lol.

Xenoblade

FF6 is better than FF7

My second fav JRPG of this gen after Xenoblade. Only thing I feel holds it back a bit is the side quests kinda suck so there's not as much re-playability as I'd like for an RPG after the main story.
