Forums - Gaming - New TV needed! Help me out and recommend me some TVs

Hey,

I need to buy a new TV for my girlfriends parents.

Here are some things that should be considered:

- 46 - 50"
- not more than 1.500 Euro
- 3D is nice to have
- Should be easy to set up

I did not follow the TV market for quite some time now. Are there any features / technical options I have to consider?
All I heard was that LED should be the one to get these days and not Plasma or LCD. Is this correct?

Which model would you get?

Thanks.

well, I suggest you take a look at this list: http://www.chip.de/bestenlisten/Bestenliste-Fernseher-ab-43-Zoll--index/index/id/1024/

"LED TVs" today are just using LED backlight, the picture itself is still made from LCD, so LED-LCD would be a more accurate term for these TVs. Sony showed "Crystal LED" last year, which is a TV made from anorganic LEDs alone, but it's doubtful that will make it to the market any time soon. The other pure LED Tvs ofcourse would be O(rganic)LEDs.

Plasma still delievers superb picture quality (well, only Panasonic really still are in the market - the other plasmas you can buy todays are very old models you should stay away from) and usually are cheaper at the same size/same features , but consume about 2-2.5 times the energy.

I would be interested on people's thoughts here too.

I have heard great things about the LG LM6700 range for the price. What do people think, anyone have one?

This indeed is a good TV. If i was looking to buy a TV for long term this would be it.

I personally settled for the 55inch ES7100  because it was $1998 vs $2998 AUD.

The reason I went for the cheaper model is because I plan to upgrade to OLED in in the near future (3 years or so when OLED is not $12K here haha).

Haha, I did a small research and just recommended the exact same TV. Nice.

I will get a new TV with the new Xbox 3 later this year and after a quick search... I just can't wait.

i dont know much about tv's and their models. though i do know a good screen when i see one. we have 2 tvs in our house, one a 4 years old sony 32" 720p tv and another sanyo full HD tv. all i can say is that my sony tv's screen is gorgeous. the colors are amazing and the screen is VERY crisp. i actually game on it not the sanyo. its screen is really good. i would recommend a sony tv or from what i seen in stores a samsung, those screens are beautiful as well

My advice? Buy a Plasma TV. It's better than a LED TV in every aspect, from contrast to black levels and response time, and is also cheaper than LED TVs. In that price range, i would recommend the Panasonic TX-PV50VT30B, if you can find it.

I just had to buy a new one, but I found one I like, its a Samsung 50" plasma TV
colour accuracy is completely spot on, 600Hz refresh rate is perfect for gaming (as with all plasmas), and the image quality is amazing on default (in other words not a lot of screwing with the settings is needed)

I picked it up for about 470Euro after a bit of negotatio9n of course ;)

the only problems I've found is that it only has 2 HDMI ports, so if you have more you might need a switcher.... personally I just have my ps3 and 360, so it worked for me :p

That Samsung looks awesome wish I had the dough to buy one.

You really can't go wrong with most TVs over 1000 bucks.

I like Plasmas over LED myself. When it comes to picture quality I don't think its even close actually.
