Super Mario 64 is the most fun single player gaming experience I have ever had so 3D for me. There's not really anything special about 2D Mario games. They're good, but they don't wow me. Mario 64 wow'd me, and so did Galaxy 1 and 2.

3D for me, cause unlike 2D, you never know what to expect from a Mario 3D game... atleast not as much as 2D games.

3D Mario for me.

It offers more variety, and games like Super Mario Galaxy (or at least the second one, I can't remember too much from the first) even have a few 2D segments of its own.

I didn't think Sunshine or either Galaxy game was nearly as good as Mario 64 though. Mario 64 is probably my favorite Mario platformer by far. I didn't like the more linear styled Galaxy games. They were still good but I'd rather have them be more opened.

Love both but have more fun with 2D - so 2D.

3D by far. The Mario Galaxies and SM3DL are easily my favourite platformers ever. I like 2D Mario, but NSMB as a whole is boring. The last 'great' 2D Mario was SMB3, since then, Kirby and Donkey Kong have been far better 2D Platformers (Though to be fair, DK64 was also superior to Mario 64).

I can't choose. To me its a question of Mario Bros 3 and Super Mario World vs. Super Mario 64 and Mario Galaxy. Too many good memories to pick a winner. If we are comparing newer 2D to newer 3D, it would be an easy decision, 3D.

2D since we can play the new ones together.
Super mario galaxy is great single player, but co-op is a joke.

NSMBU is the favorite atm, my wife and I playing on the tv, while our 3 year old is messing around on the pad.

Can't choose. I like both.

I prefer my platformers in 2D. The placement of the camera allows more accurate jumps.
