Forums - Gaming - You people want MOAR Power in 8th Gen consoles, but........

call me a you people one more gain and we gone have some problems. best recognize what it be like up in this peace befoe things be gett'n out of hand upin this pace. ya heard!

i agree 100%

seriously! more power, means less innovation with higher cost, and i'm not down for that. the 8th gen. would be over before i buy a console at the thought of consoles costing $400 or more.

If it wasn't for the game pad thing the Wii U would cost MUCH less than it does now. The only reason it's even as expensive as it is, is due to the game pad which costs like 100$+ all by itself.

Like I told Turkish, the GamePad shouldn't be that much by itself. All it is is a controller with a cheap camera and screen. It shouldn't cost more than $60 to make, but because of markup these days, it would probably be $100.

The repair cost alone for the Gamepad itself is 85$. If you were to buy it separetly then it cost over 100$. In Japan it was around 170$ for the gamepad alone (not the whole console).

MS and Sony probably aren't going to have a huge touch screen controller that costs half of the whole package. Take that into consideration. The Wii U may be $300 and not as powerful as some people want, but MS and Sony can sell $300-$400 machines without expensive to manufacture controllers. That's an extra $100-150 that can be spent on RAM, CPU, GPU, etc.

Wait didn't some devs like Rockstar or Take-Two say developmental costs would stay around the same?

With an budget of over 100 Mil for GTA V and ~100 Mil for GTA IV I'm pretty sure THEIR dev. costs won't rise :P

We must have more power!! More more more! Even at the risk of destroying the industry!

Kinda sounds like how the Roman Empire fell

What a ridiculous notion.  Of course with new consoles, there will come more power.  That's the point of new consoles.  Sony and MS aren't going to just release a PS3/360 with new casings, and some gimmick smacked on, and expect them to sell for the next 6 years.  The only time this has not been the case is with the launch of the Wii and the Wii U.  Nintendo was fotunate that the Wii mote enticed as many people as it did.  The same strategy doesn't seem to be working twice, though.  Still, even Nintendo handhelds hold this principle.  Are Nintendo handhelds going to die, now, because they have more power each gen?

What we have here are Nintendo fans who are scared to death that the gap between the PS4/NeXbox and the Wii U is going to be so significant that Nintendo will lose most major 3rd party SW.  So, instead of just accepting it, they'd rather to either stay in denial ("PS4/NeXbox won't be that much of a leap over the Wii U") or just bash the new tech ("more powerful consoles will destroy the industry, for some reason").  As years go on, tech always gets cheaper to make, so these systems will bring profit to Sony and MS, not kill them.  And dev costs are not going to increase greatly, as these consoles are going to be closer to PCs, techwise, so most developers will know how to develop on them already.  The only thing that kills publishers/developers  is the lack of quality in their games and/or the lack of time/resource management within the company.

Yeah, that's mostly markup. What were you trying to get repaired on the gamepad?

....but can the industry really survive it?

Everyone in the PS3/360 camp says the Wii U isn't poweful enough. How powerful do you expect the PS4/X3ox to be??? If Nintendo takes a loss on the so called "underpowered" Wii U, than what makes you think Sony and MS will be able to release consoles with MOAR power, and even remotely turn some sort of profit?

The base Wii U is $299, and they profit with 1-2 games sold, so that puts the production price at around $325 (and no the GamePad doesn't eat up most of the cost). If consoles are as powerful as you people want, we could be looking at $400-$500 launch prices if they don't sell at a loss.

Oh, and 4k will NOT happen next gen. just saying :).

Development costs are rising, and we lost a lot of devs this gen. What makes y'all think they'll survive with costs tripling? We'll just have more Call of Duty, Assassin's Creed, and Madden, and less innovation. Lightbbox Interactive, Eat Sleep Play, and Superbot Entertainment were all founded in the middle of this gen. They all released games last year that didn't sell. After that they faced major layoffs, and make iOS games now. THQ went belly up, and poor Vigil got left in the cold. Now we have publishers like EA and Square Enix consistently posting losses. If big publishers are losing money now, how will they survive next gen?

The answer?: They WON'T

If development costs rise more next gen like Epic says, bigger publishers will have to merge, and smaller publishers will either turn to iOS development, or shut down altogether, like THQ and Atari. Everyone wants an insanely powerful PS4, but for the good of the industry, it's not necessary.

You can create a really powerful (compared to PS3/360) PC for about £400. Considering the ability corporations have of optimising design and purchase in bulk, there is absolutely no reason why they cannot deliver on a fuck-ton of power. No reason at all. What they'll be wanting to do however is minimise costs. Quit the green hardware crap and give us consoles that run like toasters.

Nintendo takes a loss with WiiU because of the GamePad, the console itself shouldn't be much more expensive than the PS360. Afterall WiiU specs wise is not above said consoles, save for more(but slower) ram.

4K will happen next gen, PS4 gpu will have 32 ROPs, enough for 4K.

4k alien invaders

Yay!!!
