Activision recently stated it was COD4, 7 million sold through by GFK, Charttrack, and NPD. But I started thinking they didn't really include Japan.

 So what was it? Here is what I assume are the main contenders:

 Wii Play?

Wii Sports? (personally I do not think pack ins should count as sold games at all, so personally I would eliminate this)

 Mario Galaxy?

 COD4?

Halo 3?

 A DS game?

 Guitar Hero?

Also noted, Activisions COD4 boast likely includes PC sales..

It was Pokemon Diamond/Pearl for the DS.

I thought it would have been Wii Sports. And I remember this thread also.

Wow. In Japan, the highest-selling game not on Wii or DS was #19, and a Final Fantasy game at that.

Pokemon... Eugh! When will Pokemon die and how much money has it's makers made on it?!

If we count WiiSport than of course it will win with 7.1 mln sold in NA, 2.0 mln in Japan (those were acutal sell, no pack-ins) and 5.3 mln in Others (so around 14.4 mln total).

Wii Play: 8.1 mln
Halo 3: 6.8 mln
GH3: 6.7 mln
CoD4: 5.7 mln
SMG: 4.7 mln

why should pokemon die?
it's seems a lot of people enjoy it, so it really doesn't bother me
