Forums - Sony - PS4 will be bundled with next gen PS Eye, report claims - Head and hand tracking

It won't cost that much, it's two passive 720p webcams. Lowest price today for a 720p webcam is $25 online retail. Sticking two together won't cost Sony much to produce.

Is there any news if the current move controllers will be supported?
The stereo vision and higher res should help with depth perception for move as well.

Also, I don't believe it. It would probably cost too much to include it.
But would be hilarious if ps4 could do the same tv switching that xbone does.

All they have to do to avoid fallout, (and fanbase hypocrisy) is:
1. No anti-consumer DRM
2. Used games as usual
3. Be able to function without DualCam
4. Have games

Im more focused on the always online thing. Im almost 100% positive it wont be added but still.. Lol

I would have preferred if they included a decent headset with the console for voice chat rather than this. I don't like using a device on top of my tv as mic and the tv as speakers. But I guess this is more targeted towards the casual audience who like to do voice chat with their console and stuff, which is fine by me.

Let's just hope it doesn't increase the cost too much.

I'm not that concerned about Kinect watching me, but it is a very capable camera for that kind of thing. They shouldn't make the camera have to be connected/on. It makes me feel like there is no controller navigation for their OS.

What I want from the new PS Eye is for it to be optional, used for video chatting, and enhancing the PS Move experience. The biggest problem with the move was the PS Eye. The camera wasn't wide enough or high enough resolution. PS Move should work much better with this new Eye.

Before the PS3 everyone was nice to me :(

i think they did it for selfish reasons.  developers know for sure that every xboner user is familiar with kinect.  if it wasnt "mandatory"  people could just throw it in the corner and the user base would be back in the bottom percentile.  the biggest issue is what happens if it breaks.  one thing microsoft did right with kinect one is get rid of the motor.

The current Move controllers were mentioned and used at the PS4 reveal press conference.

Go Team Venture! I still don't get the Wii, PS Move,  and Kinect.

I think it will be bundled it doesnt look to have the same kind of expensive tech that Kinect has like infra red cameras and what not, i think its literally an eye toy with a second camera.

499 price then.

Can't be 399 with those parts.

well we've known forever that this pseye excepts voice commands.  that was leaked ages ago.  but we've yet to see it in action (how good is the recognition?) and if sony plans to integrate it into the OS.  i'll assume if sony thinks MS has a key advantage with their voice commands they will follow suite but i'll guess it isn't there day 1.

as far as head/hand tracking.  i'll also remain skeptical.  i had the misfortune of playing "the fight".  tracking was pretty bad.  the stereo vision of this new pseye should help be even so it will be a far cheaper solution than kinect so i wouldn't expect the same results either.

See I don't believe that. I think the vast majority of users will have Kinect set up probably, and the PS Eye for that matter. The user base for these devices will be at an all time high and make games for them more viable. I think Kinect is mandatory because they are trying to use it for their OS instead of the controller, that would be terrible in my opinion.
