I disagree, the fighting genre is still huge. Why else does Smash Bros continue to grow?.

SSBB sold so well because of who is in it, the Wii got exactly one other worthwhile fighter, TvC.  Since TvC didn't sell much though despite being a great game is obvious SSBB mainly sells because it is a Nintendo game with Mario and Zelda etc characters.  The fact it is a fighter is irrelevant to its sales.

Wii had quite a few worthwhile fighters. Guilty Gear XX Accent Core, Castlevania Judgement(IMO), Punch-Out!!!, DBZ Budokai Tenkaichi 2/3, Bleach Shattered Blade, Naruto Clash of Ninja...

Nearly all quite terrible, Punch Out was good, but that isn't even a fighter.

C'mon, you're telling me Guilty Gear XX and Budokai Tenkaichi 2/3 are terrible?  I could understand skepticism towars Castlevania Judgmenet and Bleach, but all the other games there are great fighters. Also, if Punch Out isn't a fighter, i don't know in which genre i could include it. Just because the viewing perspective is different doesn't mean that the game isn't a fighter.

Boxing is sports.

Guess you're right. But boxing is fighting too, that's quite confusing.

I agree with the OP... the reason all three games flopped is that they were all pretty much half-assed. There was a lot of potential for PS All Stars and the return of Twisted Metal, but the two main problems they had going for them was that one was seen as a blatant ripoff of another big franchise only without all the different modes and a roster full of iconic characters, and the other was still stuck in a bygone era of gaming and did pretty much nothing to improve on the formula.

And I'm still scratching my head at Starhawk... the sort-of-sequel to one of the PS3's few games worth playing back in 2007 wasn't exactly what fans of Warhawk were hoping for.

You know I was always wondering why no one ever used the dollar sign for $ony, but then I realized they have no money so it would be pointless.

So why didn't a Sony game With Kratos and Nathan Drake etc characters sell anywhere nearly as well?

Also didn't TvC sell well considering we don't have the Tatsunoko brand in North America? Wait it did, Tvs.C was the 6th best selling Capcom vs. game ever made. It sold 65% as well as the best selling Capcom vs. game and was only beaten recently by Capcom vs. Marvel 3

I wouldn't call Tatsunoko vs. Capcom a flop since it did well compared to other games in the series and other crossovers.

Kratos and Drake aren't anywhere near as popular as Mario alone, let alone plenty more of the SSBB cast.  TvC hasn't sold large numbers, again strengthening the point the SSBB didn't sell because it was a fighter.

Uh....compared to other games in the franchise Tvs.C still sold well, and got good reviews. So it's not a flop.

Also Kratos is pretty damn popular, I've read stories of husbands wanting to name their kid Kratos. It's nowhere nearly as big as Mario, but he's probably just as big as Link and bigger then Samus and most of the SSB cast. Nathan Drake too. So selling 5% as well is kinda a flop to me.

However, to make a long despute short, everyone has their own opinion. I think it flopped on a sales front, but you don't. 500k is financially acceptable, Sony made a profit, so I guess to you it wasn't a flop. IMO any major brand video games which sell under 1 million are flops. Banjo Kazooie Nuts and Bolts, etc. I used to consider Metroid: Other M a flop, but it broke 1 million.

If you knew the history of the Vs. series you'd know it had problems in the past, the PS1 X-Men vs SF and MSH vs SF were heavily gimped versions with major important features missing, MvC1 was released only on Dreamcast, a console that didn't sell well and died, MvC2 faced a problem of Capcom losing the Marvel rights so it wasn't allowed to be sold for very long.

The only Vs. games that have ever released without problems are TvC and MvC3, and TvC sold very badly in comparison to MvC3.  Comparing either to past Vs titles is a broken comparison.

Maybe, I'm not huge on fighters so I don't know the history of the vs. series.

So are you saying that every Vs. game is a flop except Mvs.C3? I disagree, I think Cvs.T did well considering that T..... isn't a brand seen outside of Japan, and it's a hardcore Wii game by non Nintendo devs.
