I do not doubt releasing any game on as many platforms as possible increases the amount of sales as you have wider and wider audience. However, reading this article it seems that the development team struggled not because of sales, but due to internal problems and delaying the game twice. Now, if this same company wants to make on multiple platforms...won't that require more work? Sure, the payoff will likely be greater, but if they delay their next game two years due to internal problems they likely will flirt with bankruptcy yet again.
I think this argument has two valid sides on the whole risk/reward model of business.
