Forums - Sales - GameStop: next-gen console sales will be “diminished” if used games are restricted

VG247

GameStop has said consumers’ “desire to purchase” consoles will be “significantly diminished” if manufacturer were to block the ability to play used games.

Speaking with Bloomberg, the chain’s VP of public and investor relations, Matt Hodges, said sales of new tech would also be diminished should the machines “limit portability, or not play new physical games,” we assume he is referring to the “cloud-only” rumors for next-gen with part of his statement.

Yesterday, GameStop share prices fell 6% over the course of the day following a report claiming the next-gen Xbox would tether purchased games to individual consoles, as way to circumvent used game sales.

GameStop's sales will be "diminished" if this becomes true.

I honestly think that if this was true, GameStop would significantly reduce their support for Xbox and PlayStation consoles. It would actually be great for Nintendo XD

Could I trouble you for some maple syrup to go with the plate of roffles you just served up?

In a way, it's true. I think it's a bad idea to tether games to one console.

A beautiful post if I do say so myself!

Gotta say though my honest opinion on this is that you should buy games you see yourself playing and keeping.

Spending $60 on a game, and returning it for a $15 credit just says your bad with money. Its like this new rule will force gamers to actually learn about the value of a dollar and actually buy what they can see themselves playing for a long time.

Xbox: Best hardware, Game Pass best value, best BC, more 1st party genres and multiplayer titles.

They're just upset cause their stock fell following the news/rumors.

doubtful.
