Forums - Gaming - What if both PS4 & X720 block 2nd hand and have always online?

having to be online all the time is a no-go for me, because I get a disconnect every 24 hours, which is already puting me off playing online game in the timeframe where I expect the reset, now not even being able to play anything at that point would piss me off even more.

prolly I am going to move to the Wii U then

Oh I'd be a total PC gamer then. Not that it's that much different from my current situation but hey, now I had a PS3 and quite a few games for it at least.

Probably skip them, but I hope I won't have to.

I am always on line and always buy new games. No any impact on me.

Well, it wouldn't make me stop gaming for sure. My plan is to grab a PS4 and latter on the gen a Wii U. If they block used games and put always online restrictions, I would probably get an U and wait to get a PS4 or don't get one at all. Steam box is a strong option too.

I don't care a lot about used games, since In always bought them new. But the always online thing is a deal breaker. It means that if my connection fails, I will be kicked from my game after a timeout. Last weekend, my ADSL modem broke. So, that means that I would have to stay without Internet and without playing single player games until I bought a new modem? That's ridiculous (of course I bought a new one in the same day, it was Saturday. If it happened on Sunday, I would have to wait until Monday without videogame?)

In this case I mean I will only play on Wii U...

Since I do buy second hand games and I don't play online, that would mean that I'll probalby skip both consoles, which would be good because I'd be able to upgrade my PC and get the best hardware, for my needs.

I would also get a WiiU to support Nintendo for not submiting to the publishers (who ignore them).

But I really doubt it will happen, they aren't that dumb... and if they are, they sure got something in return? I mean, they block 2nd hand games but publishers lower the prices of the games to 59.99 € because the plan is that they will sell more games without the 2nd hand, right? Or will they not only forbid used games but also increase the price of the games?

Please excuse my bad English.

Currently gaming on a PC with an i5-4670k@stock (for now), 16Gb RAM 1600 MHz and a GTX 1070

Steam / Live / NNID : jonxiquet    Add me if you want, but I'm a single player gamer.

i almost never buy used games and i only sell my games when i sell my console so that wouldn't be really a problem for me and would change almost nothing but i know some people who sell their used games all the time to buy a new game on release, no clue how they could afford a new console without that possibility.

almost nobody i know is collecting the games and they all sell their games after they finished them so i think it would have a big impact even if not for me.

€dit: ohh damn i forgot about the "always online", i loose connection very often for few minutes, pezus saw that when i played borderlands with him so yeah, this would be a huge problem for me when i would have the same problem playing singleplayer. as example everytime i get a call i loose connection lol

I will buy the console that doesn't have this feature. Not because I buy a lot of used games, but because I am against such thing as a matter of principle. It kills off game sharing between friends and family which I think should be perfectly OK. Heck you couldn't even have 2 consoles in the house and use the same disk on each.

Too much, too far. Wii U for me if I decide to buy a console, or Ouya. In fact I'd probably buy an Ouya purely out of protest even if I hardly ever use it.

And this is silly anyway. It's as if the OP thinks Nintendo can be ignored as a factor and Sony and MS have things so locked down they can make such a move with impunity. That is false, and that is why next gen won't have a kill switch for used games because Nintendo isn't on board.

I really hope Ouya is sufficiently successful that they can exist for a number of generations. If it becomes a viable platform then it'll reduce the chances of such dirty tactics from the big boys.

I think in some countries preventing 2nd hand game use would be illegal. They could use always online to block used games unless you pay a small fee to unlock it. But not to kill used games dead. Perhaps this is being used as a threat to make the likes of Gamestop cut publishers in on the used game racket. But given Gamestop is really struggling cutting into their profit margin by any substantial degree could kill them, not as quickly as having zero used game market, but it could happen.

it won't affect me. my net connection is very steady... last year only 1 day down. i don't ever buy 2nd hand, so no deal breaker for me. but i do understand the annoyance others might feel.
don't know where that always on-line rumor come from but technically its unnecessary to check 2nd hand copies... its based on nothing really.
