Forums - Gaming - Why do you Love/Hate Sony?

I hate Sony because they killed Sega, Atari, 3DO, and they almost killed Nintendo during the Gamecube era, and PC gaming. You don't want one gaming company to monopolize everything. Thank God Microsoft put an end to that with the Xbox. And they have no original ideas, they follow Nintendo and Microsoft in everything they do.

What's the budget for Heavy Rain? It did not feel Big Budget to me, it felt no different then Alan Wake (which had a longer development cycle, and I souldn't be surprised if it had higher development costs). The game was very short, buggy, and most of the game was a real time event (which isn't hard to make).

Halo is short, but deep. Online is extensively fleshed out and Halo 4 pushes the 360 beyond what I thought 360 was capable of.

It's not pointing out facts, in your list of Big Budget games you included Resistance....Why not include PGR for 360 then? LOL Seriously, from what I know the only big budget games for HD consoles this gen are 3 Halo's, 3 Gears (Not Judgement), 3 Forza's (Not Horizon), GT5, Killzone 2, GoY3/Asc, and Uncharted 2 & 3. I personally didn't get the feel anything else was big budget.

Now maybe a game like White Knight Chronicles turns out to have cost a lot to develop. I didn't get that impression playing the game. I also changed my post to Big Budget Blockbuster titles. Halo/Gears/Forza/GT/Uncharted/GoW/Killzone 2 are genre defining. Game features introduced/Brought to light in the Gears of War series have been immitated by countless games (Cover, Hoard, Online Medals, etc). These games are also known about by the casual audience.

If I talked to my girlfriend about Heavy Rain, she wouldn't know what the heck I was talking about. However mention Uncharted, Halo, Forza, she knows what I'm talking about.

Anyway....F***, this isn't a debate, this thread isn't for people to stand up for their favorite consoles and attempt to omit them of any faults, this is all opinion. Geez.

Updated to here, please vote on Nintendo/Microsoft Threads to show me that people actually play games other then those on PS3.

just because you FEEL a game isnt big budget doesnt mean it ISNT. also popularity and sales dont have nothing to do with big budgets, max payne 3 is an example.

its not standing up for a console, its just correcting something that is wrong. and i didnt state that halo4 wasnt big budget, i used an example to state that the length of the game does not indicate if the game is big budget or not. and this isnt a debate about what gears has influenced thats an entirely different thing.

and fyi insomniac has been in the indusrty for over 18 years. they created huge games like spyro. they been partners with sony for 15 years. if you think sony didnt grant them big budgets to a series that sold over 7 million then your dead wrong

also if you want to stop this debate then stop pointing out that your emotions and opinions as facts and stop claiming that facts are my opinions and that i say them to "omit my favorite console from any fault"

ps plus, blu ray, psn, amazing games

GT5, UC2/3, GoW3 Yes, Killzone 2 maybe, the rest, no.

I put "exclusives not my taste" as a separate reason because I'm not a fan of GoW, LBP, and I'm not as crazy about Uncharted as I am 360/Wii Exclusives.

Bleh at bolded, obviously your taste buds are DEAD! :P

Why I love Sony-

They consistantly try to out do themselves instead of only workin in the vain to make money. Sure, they are a multibillion dollar company(less so much these days) but they spend a lot of time just trying to be creative and I love that. Many of their games stimulate me mentally, a requirement for me to enjoy anything. Stuff like Heavy Rain would have never happened without them and I love them for it. I didn't feel I became a gamer till I got my first PS1, and they have kept me around ever since. Sony Playstation convinced me to go into game design as well.

Why People Hate Sony-

Like some have said, its not exactly Sony they hate, rather the fans of Sony they despise. The thing is, many Sony fans come off "Better than thou" to other console affiliates and they find it aggrevating. I accept this is something many think of me as well as I am a very opinionated person and will often speak freely about things I loathe. There is still some pint up resentment from Nintendo Fans from the PS1 era where their fav was dethroned instantly by the new kid on the block. Many felt jaded by stolen exclusives (like PS3 fans do now). It feels like over due payback for some of them so they relish in every possible failure of Sony. As for 360 fans, a bit of the same, plus the added bonus they resist the fact they bought into a shoddy product and an opinionated person such as myself takes every opportunity to remind them of it. Also its kind of "Rich kid syndrome where people hate what they can't/ or just don't have. That is why the stellar-ness of PS3 exclusives will be frequently downplayed as if  they are of the normal ilk by opposing fans. I don't kid myself into fully believin that my opinion isn't also skewed by similar outlying factors, nevertheless I feel PS fan's vocal issues with NIN and MS are usually pretty founded while the inverse is not.

You realize, in your con about fanboys....you sound very egotistical. You sound exactly like you descibe, that the PS3 and Sony in general is "Better than thou." and you even insult other consoles in your dislikes about Sony. In your cons against Sony, you are giving pro's for Sony and critisizing everyone else. You even end with essentially the statement "Sony is perfect, any flaws mentioned are mentioned in spit."

LOL

Lol, I understand what I wrote.

Line 3, 2nd Para: " I accept this is something many think of me as well as I am a very opinionated person and will often speak freely about things I loathe."

I purposely wrote this while channeling what I spoke of, so my entire statement became a physical representation of what I was describing.

I don't think Sony is in any way flawless tho, they have serious problems as a company. Yet, I feel they are far better at the gaming craft than MS or NIN. MS, buyin their way into the industry simply cuz they were afraid of PS taking over the Personal Computer market, all the while forgot they had Apple breathing down their neck, and was willing to put out a shoddy product JUST so they can have a leg up on Sony and release a yr early. No sense of pride for what they make, all they care about is the money(more so than Sony or NIN). NIN are good at what they do, yet I tire of Mario and his appearances in anything big coming from NIN(I use him not in the singular but as an example of NIN games as a whole). Those games are indeed the life blood of their consoles and in some gens were the only thing keeping them alive. I just wish they tried harder at making more "mature" material.

As most would expect, when I weigh my opinion and then someone elses to descipher whose has more merit, mine undoubtedly comes out on top(and this is not the norm for me, for I at least can come up close to even with other's opinions on other things) :P

I disagree about game crafting ability. While Sony does produce more games, using more IP's and more studios, I feel Nintendo is still king of Quality, and MS does ocassionally have a beauty. I mean take a look at the SRPG genre for example, Sony has Jeane d'Arc, Nintendo has Fire Emblem, it's kinda one sided there don't you think?

Also I think Nintendo's best works aren't always in their Mainstream Blockbuster titles, but their smaller games. I personally like the Metroid Prime trilogy over the Halo trilogy(hexilogy?) and any other shooter. I like Skyward Sword over any other Action Adventure game (even though the format isn't original, but the next one promises to be). I think the best JRPG's are exclusive to Nintendo with the sole exceptions of Lost Odyssey and Valkyria Chronicles (Final Fantasy was best before it went to Sony), and yea. Mario feels like a solid game catered to get people into gaming.

PS1 was an amazing system though, but since the PS1 Sony has been going downhill IMO, where Nintendo has remained consistantly excellent since the NES, and MS is growing.

What i like about Sony is the free online and some pretty cool exclusives (god of war, unchated, last of us, etc. basically everything naughty dog and santa monica).
What i dislike the most about Sony are the fanboys, they hype and outright lie to you about every exclusive game beeing absolutely awesome, when it really isnt. I find that reall difficult to bear as i cant really believe what they say anymore (notice that this is a generalisation, theres exceptions). I also dislike their marketing department, i think its completely incompetent and has been dragging the company down. This includes the product development division for creating unecessarily powerful products not in line with reality in terms of costs.

So in short:
Love: free online, good games.
Hate: dumb fanboys, marketing and product development department (for hardware).

You're pointing out emotions, trying to convince me that various that various moderate budget games are big budget, just because you liked them. I am trying to be specific toward the huge head turning, massive budget games, not games which have had a long development cycle like Heavy Rain or Alan Wake.

7 million over 3 games, with bundling, isn't that much at all, and sales have nothing to do with budget. Spyro was only a big franchise on PS1, and Insomniac hasn't really made a high budget game since. This is you trying to have me accept your favorite game...ah, theres no point.

Anyway I'm going to stop. I mentioned lack of Big Budget Games, you just can't accept that, it's fine. Resistance, Heavy Rain, and Alan Wake have nowhere nearly the budget of a game like GT5 or Halo.

I didn't mention Moderate Budget games for a reason, Sony has tons of those.

The main reason I like Sony is because they always strive to be at the top of the industry whether it’s with regard to TVs, music, games, or whatever – once you buy Sony, your almost guaranteed to be buying the best.

What I mainly don’t like about Sony is their ‘we are better than you’ attitude in the industry and consequently their rabid fans that seem to adopt the same mentality, especially for gaming.

have a good day sir

It really always just comes down to taste but sometimes general consensus can be taken into account...

Valkyria Chronicles is the king of SRPG warfare not on PC. It was celebrated world round by game developers and gamers alike. Fire Emblem may be great and sell butt tons, but will neve b on VC's level. Name a genre and Sony has/or had a highly rated series exclusive, and if they weren't the best selling it was at least award winning

RPG:FF series (FFVII to be specific)

Racers: Gran Turismo (best selling and most acclaimed)

Action: Uncharted (Most awarded series....ever)

Shooter:Socom(PS2 era)

Sandbox:GTA pre IV

Platformer:LBP(second most awarded gaming series), Crash

etc.
