I disagree about game crafting ability. While Sony does produce more games, using more IP's and more studios, I feel Nintendo is still king of Quality, and MS does ocassionally have a beauty. I mean take a look at the SRPG genre for example, Sony has Jeane d'Arc, Nintendo has Fire Emblem, it's kinda one sided there don't you think?

Also I think Nintendo's best works aren't always in their Mainstream Blockbuster titles, but their smaller games. I personally like the Metroid Prime trilogy over the Halo trilogy(hexilogy?) and any other shooter. I like Skyward Sword over any other Action Adventure game (even though the format isn't original, but the next one promises to be). I think the best JRPG's are exclusive to Nintendo with the sole exceptions of Lost Odyssey and Valkyria Chronicles (Final Fantasy was best before it went to Sony), and yea. Mario feels like a solid game catered to get people into gaming.

PS1 was an amazing system though, but since the PS1 Sony has been going downhill IMO, where Nintendo has remained consistantly excellent since the NES, and MS is growing.

It really always just comes down to taste but sometimes general consensus can be taken into account...

Valkyria Chronicles is the king of SRPG warfare not on PC. It was celebrated world round by game developers and gamers alike. Fire Emblem may be great and sell butt tons, but will neve b on VC's level. Name a genre and Sony has/or had a highly rated series exclusive, and if they weren't the best selling it was at least award winning

RPG:FF series (FFVII to be specific)

Racers: Gran Turismo (best selling and most acclaimed)

Action: Uncharted (Most awarded series....ever)

Shooter:Socom(PS2 era)

Sandbox:GTA pre IV

Platformer:LBP(second most awarded gaming series), Crash

etc.

I completely disagree with that statement about SRPG's. SRPG's are my favorite genre, and Fire Emblem reigns over Valkyria Chronicles. VC does not have the character development, difficulty, or story complexity of Fire Emblem Games. Plus other then Fire Emblem, there are a dozen other better SRPG franchises, most see iterations on Nintendo consoles over Sony (e.g. Tactics Ogre, FF Tactics, and Advance Wars if you consider it an RPG)

Also, while Sony has had a highly rated game in most Genre's, Hasn't Nintendo? MS is a new platform, give them time and they will have at least 1 gem per genre too. You said before something alone the lines that Sony had the best in each genre, and that's either false or debatable, not a one sided landslide like your original post made it to be.

As for the RPG Most hardcore Final Fantasy fans put FFVI above FFVII. The reason why FFVII gets so much attention is because it's the first 3D FF game, and in most cases the first FF game FFVII fans have ever finished. Plus the series was only good on PS1, it went downhill after X. Since you mentioned consensus, I think most RPG fans would agree and say the SNES was the RPG machine, above the PS1 and PS2. Add in some excellent handheld JRPG's, Project Rainfall JRPG's, and a few other gems, and Nintendo has a first grasp on the JRPG genre.

I wouldn't put the general concensus in Sony's hands, I'd actually give it to Nintendo, and not just for RPG's, but games in general.

LOL SOCOM as a good shooter. I'd put Killzone here instead and it's nothing compared to other shooters.

Either way, your arguement seems to be pro-PS1/PS2, but what about PS3? Sony isn't what it used to be. PS3 doesn't offer as much as the PS1/PS2, and it's very debatable which system is best. All 3 modern systems have an excellent selection of games, and if anything I would say HD multiplatform games have a larger library of excellent titles then PS3/360/Wii see exclusively. MP games have something for all Genres, not just most.

What VC does so differently is how they develop characters and actually make it apart of the strategy. Combatant's personality must be taken into account when positioning them or giving them tasks to get the most effective outcome. Character X is alergic to pollen, so don't put him/her in the grasslands,Character Y gets along best with X so team them together for better stats etc. VC was heavily talked about amongst developers(so I hear in the grapevine from some of the industry ppl I know). It was renowned for it's innovations in the genre. Now can you honestly say people will be talking of Fire Emblem the same way this long into the future? Mind you I am not saying Fire Emblem is a bad game or anything, it is probably magnificent. But VC reigns in "award winning" like stature.

Socom was never super popular, but the originials where highly regarded as the best tactical shooters in existance for the non K/D obsessed crowd.

While you know I can debate all night and day while FFVII(I don't count Pokemon seperate entries as different games) was and continues to be the best game SE has ever done, that is not what this is about. FFVII is the best selling in the series and best selling JRPG....ever. FFX is the second highest. So if not the most applauded they would at least be raking in those sales.

Yea....no. Fire Emblem, I never hear people praise VC over Fire Emblem in any Strategy Game fan circles (Be in on VGC, between devs, or in person). When most websites review any new SRPG genre, they compare it to Fire Emblem, and Final Fantasy Tactics, so if any game has "award winning" like stature, it's Nintendo's and Square Enix's series, not Sega's. While Valkyria Chronciles did introduce, or improve upon various concepts, it's nowhere nearly as challenging or tactical of a game as Fire Emblem. In both franchises, the presence of specific characters boost the attacks of the character in control (however there are differences, Fire Emblem allows joint attacks, while VC just gives damage boosts).

Anyway, both games are excellent, there is no point arguing, but you can't say that the "general concensus" states that Sony exclusives are better. Only 2 VC games have been localized in North America, and the 3rd didn't make it because of how poorly VC2 sold. You also have to realize that the fanbase for VC is specific towards a single game (VC1) and not the franchise, where Fire Emblem consistantly sells well, rates well, and has a much larger fanbase. If there is a "general concensus" it's that Valkyria Chronciles is probably the best recent console SRPG, but the best SRPG franchise is FE. Which game you like best is a matter of preference, but unless you played all the major SRPG franchises, you can't really say anything.

Have you beaten any SRPG's outside of VC?

As for your comment about JRPG's, do sales = quality? High sales only indicate that the "general concensus" is that FFVII is the most popular JRPG, but not the best. Popular and best and completely different. If Sales = Quality, then Halo would be king of FPS, Smash Bros would be the best fighter ever, and Wii Sports would be the best Sports game ever made.

My point is, there is no "general concesus" putting Sony exclusives a clear cut above Nintendo or MS exclusives. There might be a strong bias toward various franchises, like Uncharted, because of the high number of Sony fans on forums, but does the casual Action/Adventure gamer give Uncharted the same status as fanboys on forums? I doubt it, I think a lot more people recognize Zelda as the king of A/A games (And Skyward Sword sold less then Uncharted 3, so I am not refering to sales/popularity, but a general concensus).

Actually, because of the arguement i just mentioned, I think a lot of excellent Sony IP's (And MS/Nintendo) get Underappreciatted. After GT5, InFamous is my favorite PS3 franchise, but except for PS3 fans with forum accounts, no one really knows what InFamous is. Same goes for games like Front Mission, Lost Odyssey, XenoBlade, etc.

So no, there is no "general concensus" favoring PS3 exclusives, while they are excellent, people don't envy Sony for what they have (Except maybe when PS1 came in and decapitated Nintendo).

Too Lazy to update the list :P I think we get the idea.

They are a big money-grubbing corporation. What's not to hate?
I hate it less than Microsoft, and I hate it less than Nintendo's mascot Mario.

So what choice to I have other than to buy Playstation?

I might wait and see about Ouya, but it could easily turn into another big money-grubbing corporation no better than the rest. We'll see.

Don't mind Sony but wouldn't buy anymore hardware from them unless forced to, so basically if there were no other gaming hardware on the Market.
