I'll tell you why

The 3D models are rendered in very high quality. It has the same content for showing what moves the Pokemon learn and all. One thing that is MUCH better than the 3DS version is that with the older characters, the PokeDex data goes back to the original Red and Blue. I also think that once the 6th gen is released in October, The Pokemon Company can easily update this app with the new characters. For the 3DS one, we may have a whole new and separate program, just as how the original PokeDex 3D was released for free and had the Gen V characters, only to have another standalone PokeDex with all of the past characters.

I did get the 4th gen iPad last Thursday in preparation for my new job at a new daycare. I majored in Early Childhood Education, and I've worked with infants to school age children as a floater. I left my past center due to some problems, but I'm getting hired by a new daycare (I have to travel to it in another city which is 35 minutes away!), but this new center is more progressive as they want to integrate technology into the classrooms. So they are getting iPads as well.

For me, I got this iPad (64GB) for my specific educational purposes. I have a lot of National Geographic apps, a Sketchbook Pro drawing app, some outer space apps, the PokeDex iOS, Audubon (birds, butterflies, ocean animals, insects/arachnids, mammals, reptiles/amphibians, fungus, trees, and wildflowers). I also have some other things such as math and whatnot. I also have my therapeutic music on it, and that takes up more space than my apps.

Honestly, I've heard that there is the iPad 5 coming out later this year. I can care less about that, as the one I got serves me well for what I need. I will only change to a better iPad if mine breaks or gets outdated in 3-4 more years.

Isn't the 3DS one free?

Anyways, glad to see Nintendo putting a lot of effort into their iPad app. That device is a great outlet for broadening Nintendo's reach.

It's not Nintendo who made the app, it's the Pokemon Company, which is mostly owned by Nintendo but they're allowed to do certain non-game things on other platforms that have the ability to, like you say, broaden the reach of their IP.

Aren't the pokemon characters the same as on 3DS, only in much higher definition because of the ipad's screen?

Also, why didn't you get the new 128GB iPad that was just announced? ;)

I'm actually surprised that Nintendo would allow Pokemon Co. to do this, 'cause, you know, Nintendo is a Dictator.

I didn't want to pay nearly $1,000 for a tablet lol The 64GB one suits me fine. With everything I have on my iPad 4, I have 14GB left. I have mostly my nature and instrumental CDs along with a few soundtracks, Celtic Woman CDs, and the like.

And yes, with all the in-app purchases for the PokeDex iOS, it is $26 total. I didn't mind it. I had to use up a giftcard. And yes, the Pokemon are rendered in HD. The only difference is that the PokeDex does not say the Pokemon's names like the 3DS version, but all the data about the characters go back to the first games. The 3DS one just has B2/W2 data.

I see. I wouldn't either, haha, that's a lot of money. I just said it 'cos you mentioned your music taking up so much space. Ah well. I have a 64GB iPad 3, and it's more than enough for me as well, even though I have like tons and tons of music on it. I have a whole bunch of vids on my Macbook's iTunes as well (including all Dragonball/Z/GT episodes, lol), but those won't fit on my iPad.

$26? Hm that's a lot. Then again, not if you use a giftcard. :p I dunno about the 3DS Pokedex, really. I only have the free version, which is incomplete, as I understand. But I never really use it anyway. Anyway, it's cool that kind of thing's available on non-Nintendo hardware!
