Forums - Nintendo - IGN - Unannounced Wii U Games Could Release This Year

Interesting, I wonder what Nintendo is keeping from us? If they already revealed such awesomeness in their last Nintendo Direct, could even better announcements still be under wraps for E3??

Nintendo continues to promise more and more for the future of Wii U, even if it might take a few months to get there. The publisher now says it might have even more content ready for release before the end of this year, in addition to announced content that might make it.

"I believe that we will be able to launch new software within this year that we have not yet announced at this point," noted company president Satoru Iwata. The executive made this remark while discussing Nintendo's time frame for key Wii U software - games that would better convey the system's appeal - which Iwata framed as being "not excessively long."

Both Iwata and game designer Shigeru Miyamoto admitted Wii U's core hardware design has proven incapable of communicating its value easily and directly, putting the burden on Nintendo's marketing and software efforts.

"Wii U has a lot of attractive features, but it requires a certain amount of time for people to understand them," Miyamoto said. "We would have liked to create new entertainment that instantly communicated its value to the public, but we could not. However, I am confident that we did manage to develop software that, once people have played it, does communicate its value very well."

Nintendo's vague promises for more, unannounced software come on the heels of a Nintendo Direct which revealed a variety of games. An HD remake of The Legend of Zelda: The Wind Waker was announced for release later this year, and playable demos of new 3D Mario and Mario Kart games are due at E3 2013, making them reasonable candidates for publication in the next 12 or so months. Nintendo also plans to formally unveil its 3DS and Wii U Smash Bros. games at E3, and while development is said to be progressing steadily, no release estimate has been given.

To assist in maintaining its development schedules, Nintendo intends to build up its development teams in the future. "While it will take more time to give shape to our new propositions that take advantage of being able to use two screens, we have various ideas already," Miyamoto said. "In terms of our research and development resources, as we need more staff in response to the high performance of this hardware, we are working to recruit more people, including people from outside the company."

I never would have known that Nintendo (or any developer) has unannounced Wii U games without you guys!
Thanks, IGN.
(No, seriously, I thought we all knew that Nintendo had to have something up their sleeve?)

Just make games the fans have been asking for..

Nintendo hasn't announced all of their titles for the year as of February? Wowzas.

Yeah, but this is not about unnanonced games rather those also coming this year. One of them is a NFC game, so that makes me wonder if Nintendo is planing to miss the holiday without 3D Mario and Mario Kart pulling another 3DS 2011 circa.

And I thought we had already known the 2013 line-up.

lol. Don't sense any sarcasm here at all. :P

Nintendo are good about announcing games and releasing them in the same year. I'm actually still shocked it's taken Nintendo this long to release Luigi's Mansion and Animal Crossing. I hope for some real shockers at e3. :)

I'm appalled. It's offensive, actually. How can they let two 2D Mario's be released in one year but not my precious Animal Crossing? :(

Dont worry, Nintendo will announce their holiday lineup sometime around the day before thanksgiving after all the other big games have been announced, and then launch their games with little to no advertising.

It'll be a smashing success, just you watch!

You know I was always wondering why no one ever used the dollar sign for $ony, but then I realized they have no money so it would be pointless.

SMASH BROS COMING IN 2013 CONFIRMED!!! PASS IT ON!

Not surprising at all... Only ignorant people expected Nintendo to NOT announce more games at e3 :p

I'm on Twitter @DanneSandin!

Furthermore, I think VGChartz should add a "Like"-button.
