Ninja Theory used Avatar's studio mocap, I'm sure thats cheap.

You mean Andy Serkis' mocap studio which has been working with Ninja Theory since Heavenly Sword.

http://www.dualshockers.com/2012/01/12/ninja-theory-borrows-studios-and-staff-from-james-camerons-avatar-for-dmc-motion-capture/

Sounds cheap.

Andy Serkis' mocap studio are world leaders, from the source of the story you linked BTW

"James Cameron saw the potential of performance capture when, following a visit to Ninja Theory shooting scenes for the visually stunning Heavenly Sword on location in New Zealand, Peter Jackson, director of the Lord of the Rings, showed him some of Ninja Theory’s tracking technology. Matthews, however, is swift to point out: “I don’t think we can claim any credit for inspiring Avatar."

So you could say that Avatar used some of the same staff and studio as Ninja Theory. Andy Serkis has a long history of working with Ninja Theory and they developed a lot of mocap tech together. Not cheap but really it's not like they haven't done the same on their last couple games, it's the same studio and crew they have been using it just so happens that big movies such as Avatar and Lord of the Rings also use the mocap studio, they just happen to have used the Avatar team and space after they were done with the film.

I don't know if we are talking about the same thing but Andy Serkis founded The Imaginarium Studios in 2011 not Giant Studios (the guys who worked on Avatar). Giant Studios is in Los Angeles so it doesn't sound cheap at all.

To the rest of what you have to say. Reason why DmC supporters say its about the hair cos it pretty much is. What else have they got to complain about? the game is great, its not as easy as they tried to say it was. It has a great main character (even if his not the dante they remember). He is in no way emo as if you think his emo you must think the old dante is super emo. and the combat is great with so many different combos and moves you can use. And also the Demo was crap.

That answer it for you?.

The reason why DmC supporters say its about the hair is to try and marginalize the other groups argument.  Same deal with how sites tried to paint people unsatisfied with Mass Effect 3 as just wanting a happy ending, they are just attacking a straw man.  The main complaint boils down to the fact that it was being made by Ninja Theory.  A studio with three bad-mediocre games under their belt, and a portfolio that emphasized presentation over gameplay.  The exact opposite of what most fans loved the Devil May Cry series for.  This first made itself manifest when it was announced the game would be 30 fps.  That is sacraficing gameplay for graphical presentation.  It only got worse with ridiculous quotes like the "feel of 60 fps" and claiming it was "Shakespearean".

Now with that said, people were certainly unhappy about the new look and personality of Dante, but it was far from the only complaint.  Even that extended beyond the color of his hair as you so often try to characterize it.

Whatever about their last 2 games no one can deny this game is great. Its got great reviews from every online review site and magazine, and everyone who has played it has said its great (Except for some DMC fans who a bitter cos of the hair). But hey its nice to know you think a company that put so much hard work into a game should pretty much crash and burn.

It's only 4 points above Enslaved which was awful.  Reviews mean very little, especially now when most "journalists" seem to be little more than corporate cheerleaders.

Speaking of enslaved, I happened across a post of mine from a couple years ago

"EDIT: The last poster reminded me that Ninja Theory is doing the DMC reboot.  I had only played the demo for Heavenly Sword, which wasn't too bad.  Now that I've played Enslaved I can see why people are so pissed.  Now granted Enslaved was not meant to be DMC like combat, but it is pretty much the polar opposite of DMC 1/3.  Slow, boring, and shallow combat with a bad framerate does not give a lot of hope for the new Devil May Cry."

Nothing about hair there.

And you just proved my point.  You have no argument, so all you say is the game is great and that people who don't like it because of his hair color.  People hated how he looked, not because of the hair, but because he looked like a crackhead emo.  They hated his immature attitude, saying fuck all the time like it was cool.  Then, they got their hands on the demo, and they thought it sucked.  The combat wasn't the same, nor were the controls.  And it was too easy, both in difficulty and in the ability to rack up a SSS.  When they brought their criticisms to NT, they basically were told that's how the final game will be, so deal with it.

Also, if you think the original Dante looks more emo than the new one, you have no idea what emo looks like.

Clearly since you seem to think he says fuck all the time and stays immature in the whole game shows you have not played the whole game. By the end of the game he is building up to the white haired Dante everyone loved... After that i dont even need to talk about how you think the game is easy since you have not even played it....

I played the demo, I've watched plenty of vids and reviews, so I already know how I feel about this game without having to give NT any of my money.  And lol, yet again you bring up the hair.  You really have nothing.  No point in continuing this convo.

People don't care about the series anymore? I guess thats why the DMC HD Collection has sold 750K which for a HD collection are nice numbers.

Fans and general public voted with their wallets, I'm enjoying so much all your delicious tears. Ninja Theory has 3 bombs in a row now and since Itsuno is working hard on Dragon's Dogma 2 Capcom should beg Platinum to do DMC5 but it won't happen since DmC killed the franchise.

Reviews huh? Well I like to think by myself and not let others decide what I like or want, I played the demo and as a stand alone game its ok but as a Devil May Cry game is a gigantic step back in gameplay, just my opinion. I don't want Ninja Theory to close I just don't want them to dumb down another DMC game and the fans agree on that voting with their wallets.

Its ok you already said you think DMC4 is the best in the series so i know already not to listen to your opinion on action games just by that alone .

Also the game was a big improvement over DMC 4 the only game in the DMC series that could maybe top this game is DMC 3 as imo both of them a very close.

This isnt only an Ok action game this is a great action game, maybe if you go play the full game you will find that out .

This is coming from a big action game fan and a DMC fan, I have played every action game from GoW, to DMC, to Baynota etc, and this stands up there with them all easy imo.

First of all learn to read I wrote that gameplay wise DMC4 was the best of the series, DMC3 is the overall best game of the series.

And second why would I buy a game which I think is a gigantic step back based on the demo? Thats why demos are for right? It didn't entice me to buy it, MGR demo on the other hand convince me to buy it.

Funny i heard a few fans og MGS complain about that demo too. I wonder if the backlash will be as big with such a change in style O_O.

But the Demo was crap, take this from someone who played the demo. I couldnt believe how much they fucked up on the demo its not even funny. I can promise you if you go play the full game you will be a believer, and not only that you will see how this dante is going to turn into the dante we all loved

Platinum is not releasing a game called MgS with dumbed down mechanics, no challenge and a plot stolen from "They live". They are releasing a non canon spin off in a different genre called Metal Gear Rising and its not the first time Konami does this, remember Metal Gear Acid?

And also we are getting Ground Zeroes for the main canon timeline, Metal Gear franchise won't die if MGR doesn't sell.

I won't buy this game I'm saving my money for MGR in 2 weeks and GOW Ascension a month later.

Well i guess if MGR sells better then MGS4 konami might have other plans to make the rest of the MG series more action or in this style of gameplay

Also you cant call it dumbed down since you have not played the game, by doing so you are just trolling and i promise i will report you for it.

Its a spin-off, if by some miracle it sells better than MGS4 KojiPro would order a sequel from Platinum not change the other franchise. Wow.

I played the demo, report me.

Dont know what you mean about bad framerates or the game running at 30FPS (what do you expect with a game looking this good on the 360 or Ps3 anyways? pretty much all the good looking games run at 30FPS on them consoles), but im playing this game at 60FPS on my PC and it runs as smooth as butter.

Also i aint trying to downplay their complaints, but i guess i could change it. DMC4 fans are pissed then that Team ninja made a better game then DMC4??. cos as an action game fan i can tell you imo 100% this is a better game then DMC4 and the only game in the DMC series that fans can even use to try to top it is DMC3 (as that was my fav DMC game before this one). The combat is not slow and its far from being boring and imo anyone that says that is ether a hater or just has not played the full game...

This is the best Action game this gen since God of War 3 imo. I think the only game that will maybe top it is GoW Ascension.

also them Platnum fans better be worried as MGS Rising has been getting some back lash from fans of MGS going by the demo. But hey demos aint the judge of the full game it says so before you even play them

Like I said, presentation over gameplay.  30 FPS is not a good frame rate for a DMC game, and the PS3 version isn't even locked at that (though it doesn't dip much other than cutscenes).  Yes, it does seem to run fine on PC, but that is probably down to them using UE3.  It dosen't seem that they have made any specific considerations for PC.

I don't think DMC fans are too pissed about Team Ninja, maybe Metroid fans.  Ninja theory on the other hand...

While I like the God of War series, the combat pales in comparison to DMC.  If that is your standard bearer, I can see why DmC is more up your alley than the other Devil May Cry games.

The difference with Rising is it has always clearly been a spinoff.  There will be another MGS game regardless of how it does.  It was never there to replace MGS.

^ This up here. I don't want to start another discussion but people don't play GOW for its combat mechanics, there is not comparison with DMC.

I don't know if we are talking about the same thing but Andy Serkis founded The Imaginarium Studios in 2011 not Giant Studios (the guys who worked on Avatar). Giant Studios is in Los Angeles so it doesn't sound cheap at all.

Ah my mistake I assumed that they were still using Andi Serkis' old mocap production crew as he worked with Ninja Theory on their last 2 games as an actor and mocap director. They used the studios in New Zealand that were used for LotR etc back then.

And I knew some of his tech was used on Avatar so I assumed they were the same. It seems that Giant Studios does a lot of game work tho and I doubt they would be much more expensive than Andy Serkis himself just because the Avatar crew also used the same studio. Ninja Theory have a long history of mocaping their games, in fact the quality of their mocap is basically their calling card and Andy Serkis and his crew was a big part of that. I guess they aren't working together anymore as like you said Andy has his new production company that is developing that Animal Farm film that he is also directing. But still I don't see how Giant Studios would be a lot more expensive than what they have been doing before, the actors were probably already in LA so that would save flying them to NZ.

Not really surprised I played the console version at my friends house and absolutely hated it. For me it felt really sluggish and didn't seem flowy luckily one of my friends purchases the PC version so I also got to try it out on PC I ended up purchasing it right away because it felt a lot closer to DMC than the console version with its smooth 60fps.
