Forums - Sony - The PlayStation 4; don't be surprised if it is "free" at launch

Worst idea ever, 1200$ for a possibly 400$ console? Least I do not plan on buying it until it is around 300$.

Careful - it's AU$1200, not US$1200. The Wii U Premium costs AU$430, to give you a reference point. Although it's possible that the PS4 will cost AU$400, it's unlikely unless Sony is going the "Nintendo route", in which case I doubt that they'd be coming up with such a system anyway.

To give you another reference point, the 60 GB PS3, in Australia, launched at AU$999. The 20 GB PS3 launched at AU$799.

AU$ is worth about the same as US$. But because I imagine manufacturing and shipping in AUS is harder then US it is about 300$ more. 900$ is still too much.

If they offer that il just pay for it upfront, I think logically with money

I'd rather just pay the whole thing upfront.

Please use a real currency, not Australian wallnuts.

I think it's a great idea and should be promoted, especially if PS4 goes over $399. They should charge us $99 and add the rest to the PS+. I'm not an early adopter, the only console I got in its first year was Vita, cause I got it from my mobile operator for $0.33 :P but I would get PS4 early if it cost me just $99. I have no intention of paying $399+. Though it all obvoiusly depends also on how much it would add up to.

Wii U is a GCN 2 - I called it months before the release!

My Vita to-buy list: The Walking Dead, Persona 4 Golden, Need for Speed: Most Wanted, TearAway, Ys: Memories of Celceta, Muramasa: The Demon Blade, History: Legends of War, FIFA 13, Final Fantasy HD X, X-2, Worms Revolution Extreme, The Amazing Spiderman, Batman: Arkham Origins Blackgate - too many no-gaemz :/

My consoles: PS2 Slim, PS3 Slim 320 GB, PSV 32 GB, Wii, DSi.

i know a lot of people do that to get a free or cheaper smartphone and end up not paying the bill...
so how you think Sony is gonna settle such problem that i'm sure it will happen from many subscribers...

our big german retailers offer to pay in installments for everything anyway, sometimes even without interest

I wonder is Sony has considered including hardware discounts for PS+ members?

I don't see the problem with this.....I think this could very well happen. Why not....it's done for Mobiles and has been for years. Why not offer 2 options....buy it out right for £399 or tie yourself into a PS+ contract for 2 years, paying £15/£18 per month plus a £100 up front cost.

So you could be paying £460/£530 for the PS4 over 2 years and you get a full 2 years worth of PS+.

Buy doing this, they will get much more people buying into it....its a very sensible way to operate.

Prediction (June 12th 2017)

Permanent pricedrop for both PS4 Slim and PS4 Pro in October.

PS4 Slim $249 (October 2017)

PS4 Pro $349 (October 2017)

The Aussie dollar is worth more than the US dollar. But we get royally screwed by most industries, the games industry included. In addition to being screwed, we also include our sales tax in our prices - when it says AU$300, it means you have to pay AU$300, not AU$300 + sales tax. It's got nothing to do with shipping or manufacturing costs - Europe gets royally screwed, too, even when the manufacturing is local.

Nintendo's prices have at least improved a bit since the exchange rate came to parity. We now pay AU$80 for US$50 games, rather than AU$100. We paid AU$400 for the US$250 Wii, but we pay AU$350 for the US$300 Wii U. Hopefully, Sony and MS will follow suit on that change, at least.

Why not have both models....you know just like phones. You can either pay $450 upfront with no contract or $100 upfront + $20 monthly for 2 years.
