Forums - Gaming - New Vegas wtf. Normal edition runs better than ultimate?

I just recently got the ultimate edition. It was 21  bucks on Amazon so I figured it would be nice to not spend 40 bucks on all the dlc and I can still keep my save. This is on PS3 btw. First of, the normal edition of New Vegas had ZERO bugs for me before Obsidian started patching it. If it did have bugs it was tiny stuff I never noticed. I never got bad framerate drops or crashes ever. Once the patches came I started getting bugs. Nothing major funny little glitches where NPC's fall in the grind or whatever. I only experienced a few framerate drops and no crashes that i can remember if it did happen it was only like once or twice. Well I got the Ultimate Edition. You would think this game should run better but nope. Now I experience frequent crashes and framerate drops. Not all the time. Say I play New Vegas for a few hours, I'll get maybe one or two crashes where the framerate hits zero or the game just crashes all together.

Has anyone else gone through what I have with this situation? It's such a damn shame. New Vegas might be one of the best games this gen maybe ever if it ran well. The normal edition does but obviously that misses the dlc. I can't fathom how the hell this game is hardly playable with the ultimate edition which is just added DLC while I didn't experience any of these big problems with the normal edition.

A non-surprising issue of a Bethesda game on PS3.

I have New Vegas, and Fallout 3 for PS3. I did encounter some bugs on New Vegas but nothing game breaking. As for Fallout 3, I can't play the game for more than 5 minutes because it freezes. (GOTY edition with all main quests completed)

I can only recommend re-installing the game, and try not to leave items in multiple places as much as possible (don't drop, instead sell of items).

e=mc^2

Gaming on: PS4 Pro, Switch, SNES Mini, Wii U, PC (i5-7400, GTX 1060)

That's a shame. Fallout 3 GOTY works great for me. There is still bugs but only funny ones. I had the opposite problem with fallout 3. The normal edition had a ton of problems and the GOTY mostly everything was fixed. Now somehow New Vegas has the different scenario.

I can't say for certain because I have like 25 mods lol.

there are a couple mods that might help this is a 4gb mod. That allows the exe to utilize 4gb instead of 2 gb of ram

There's also a stutter remover that works well

I've tweaked mine to high hell and it runs great. But I spent a lot of time changing textures, animations, skeletons, gameplay etc.

EDIT:

My guess is there's more crap so it runs worse. Obsidian's/Black Isle always been very buggy... what you get in gameplay/writing, you lose in competent programing.

I said this was on PS3. I sure as hell wish i had a gaming PC to play it though.

yeah sorry I just read the topic, I love obsidian's games because their ideas are great, but their fanbase has had always had to fix their games.

Have you read any others having this problem with the PS3 version at like gamefaqs. That's a better place to look I think.

Yeah as I said New Vegas would be one of the best games if it ran fine. I'd probably give it a 9.5/10 if that was the case but it's so bad it goes down to like an 8/10 even including all dlc. Nothing higher than an 8.5. I have only played a few times with the ultimate edition but everytime it crashes. it will run fine for awhile and crash again. Play fine for awhile and crash again. I had lag so bad I was completely frozen. Couldn't even get to the settings.
