Forums - Gaming - Playstation 4 will fail sales wise. Here is why...

OoSnap said:

It looks like the Playstation 4 will use the same boring controller of 18+ years but with a touchpad (which I think is useless for the most part). I have said it before and I will say it again that the console with the novel controller which enables novel gameplay ideas will win the new gen. That's what the mass market wants. That's why I think Wii U will win sales wise. That leaves Microsoft with possibly bringing out something innovative but I doubt it because I don't think they are creative.

So you are basing your whole theory on subjective thinking? Really? I've owned and played the PS1, PS2 and the PS3. From my experience, having used the 360 controller, I find the dualshock to be far better. So am I to start a thread based on MY subjective viewpoint? This is silly.

Not broke, don't fix, ect.

Dual shock is the best controller- has been and always will be. It just needs minor adjustments gen to gen. In this case better triggers and a vita style d-pad (it already has the best dpad on the market but the vita took it to a new level).

Dualshock could use some better ergonomics. It looks too old-school. They need to make it look new and futuristic, modern.

EWW NO. Bad idea is bad.

Currently own:

  • Ps4

Currently playing: Witcher 3, Walking Dead S1/2, GTA5, Dying Light, Tomb Raider Remaster, MGS Ground Zeros

Expecting it to be a battle between Nintendo and Microsoft in the 8th gen.

I have a feeling Sony is going downhill and will do badly everywhere, except maybe decent in Europe. Nintendo will take Japan while Microsoft will take the US.

The main reason Sony caught up with the PS3 to some extent is because they were just fine with selling the console at a horrible loss for a long, long time. Anyone with enough money in the bank can make the most powerful system and sell it at a loss to get people to buy it. I don't think Sony can/will do the same thing again for Vita/PS4.

why fix something that does work?

I think this thread is pretty stupid.(especially because you ask for a new controller and sony already has the vita that can be used as a tablett, but not so volouminous and with modern touch screen)
A Nintendo fanboy should be able to realize that Nintendos current success is based on old boring tech and definitivly has nothing to do with innovation.I mean the zero innovative 3ds.Using old 3d screen tech from sharp and sony,
low tech hardware= psp style, analog slider/analog stick =psp, old DS design, low tech cam etc.
The 3ds success is based on:old zelda 64,the same old 3d/2d mario games and same old mario cart.

DS was innovative, wii was,3ds=zero innovation but max. success.Maybe Wii U sales will increase, not beceause but despite the tablett controller.Wii U will be saved by the good old old fashioned mario and link.

why should sony and ms innovate?to produce another wii u ?
pc gamers are using the mouse for 3 decades ,no need to change, the same with controllers.

Actually, I believe that what's gonna "save" Nintendo this gen is the Miiverse. It's just an awesome and great implemented idea, it just needs to be known by the general public. It's gonna be a hit when more people start knowing more about the system.

And, about the last part of your post, that's not true. PC gamers first used mechanical mouses, then optical mouses and, now, they use laser mouses. But that's not only it. Now we have laser mouses that go up to 8200 DPI, while a few years ago they went only to 5600 DPI! That's innovation there, friend. And change.

It's a bad idea to make the Dualshock less ancient?

Ok lmfao.

Doesn't need any glowing stuff. I just find it irrataing that the controllers of PS1/2/3 all look the same. If my mom looked at these controllers she woudln't be able to tell which console they are for since they are virutally identical.

I say keep the button layouts, make it more ergonomic(like the 360 controller) and make sure that touchpad is actually useful and not a stupid gimmick.

Oh, idk. Some background lighting would actually be useful for some of my friends at night who don't play Playstation very often. But yeah, an ergonomic redesign would also be welcomed by me :D

Yeah, apparently the Wii U is not what the mass market wants. And the PS4 and xbox 720 will be no different, none of them will reel in the casuals this gen. Its a nice sentiment though, if you assume that the Wii U is going to win that must mean that the next PS and xbox will move less than 45-50 million each at the most, that's a drastic drop from the 7th generation hardware sales.

Also, OP, shouldn't you be creating hit & run religious threads?

Not a single PS3 owner is a casual gamer. I think everybody that had a PS3 this gen will buy the PS4: 70 million units, not bad at all

that's a bold face lie
