I think the biggest amount of hate is because Sony copied Nintendo so often through history. However, I`ve been moving away from Xbox as my second console and moving towards Playstation based on this last generation.

" Sony copied Nintendo so often through history."
Copy and development of a technology, is not the same as Licencing and innovative use of such hardware tech.
that's i think is the real problem:
for instance :
Every company copy's yes even Nintendo!. they infact used Technology they did not even create, because no one company can create it all. Nintendo back in 2001 met with a company that pitched the "idea" of the WiiMote to Nintendo, Nintendo Licenced the technology. while in 2000 a year before DR. Richard Marks was showing Motion control at Siggraph graphic's convention a motion control system that was developed with the PS2. That technology as its core components was not all exclusive Sony created parts, but the concept of how it interacted with a Game console for motion control was unique in its developed software and Hardware for Game console's.
that's what the problem i think in my opinion is that many see it as "let me get my xerox copy machine out, when largly that is not the case at all. I think in my opinion, its largely the perception of "Nintendo did it first" everyone steals Ideas from Nintendo that irks some gamer's and the fact that Nintendo fans look at Innovation as the only real criteria of creative freedom. Not just the Creative use of technology, but the Actual creation of the technology itself is what many Nintendo Fan's i think are pointing finger's at other companies and saying loudly "Copy" when Nintendo themselves did not even make the technology they licenced it.
"Nintendo did not make it, nintendo just made it popular" Thomas Alva Edison did not invent the light bulb but made a Tweak to the lightbulb that made the bulb better.
Key perceptive view is one company is an inventor! while the other is making a creative use of an invention!
and being just some that "copy's" someone Else's Innovative use of Technology .
so if we take the WiiMote as an example:
while Nintendo Licenced the Wiimote, and designed an innovative use for it's technology
Sony was developing a technology at the time, that was on the same path that the technology that Nintendo Licenced. but here is the thing, at the time the company that pitched the idea of the WiiMote to Nintendo even in early 2001, was just on a cork board and a projector in concept!
The Point I think is based on "Perceptive view" Not based on what it really is.
