Forums - Microsoft - Devil May Cry 4 Demo Impressions

My impressions of the demo are kinda meh actually, I've only played the mission segment though :P so I haven't done the non-stop 10 minutes which would be much cooler in my opinion.

The graphics were good, far from the best, but good :P Far better than most Multi-plats to say the least.

The Style was wonderfull :P they still have that absolutely cocky attitude in character design and I like it ^^

I felt a bit empty on the combo list :/ like I didn't have all that many options on my plans for attacking xD, then again number 3 was the last one I played and that had a bunch of ways to do things so maybe it's just me.

Overall it looks like a damn great DMC title :P it has a shot at being the best in the series in my opinion ^^, although the devil arms reach is a bit too short for me atm >_>; It's no god of war ^^ but a pretty solid action game none-the-less :D

Yes the demo is godly and the devil arm is amazing.

I'm amazed at how a game that looks this good is considered to look unimpressive... you can't expect every freakin game to look better than everthing else. Just cause there are a handful of better looking games doesn't mean this looks 'meh'... graphics standards are going crazy.

I dare anyone to find a game that looks this good and runs this smoothly.
There's no point in looking, because you find a game like that until Ninja Gaiden 2 comes out. Devil May Cry 4 is the game of the year so far. Ninja Gaiden is the only game I see being able to compete with it.

Well my two cents:

I only had enough time to play each part of the demo once before work. (360) Having never played any DMC games previously I am impressed with this game. Graphics were good, gameplay felt good. Will play it a few more times tonight.

A possible buy for me.

yeh, hopefully it will be tougher when they release the game. Difficulty is very important in these games. Alma on hard mode. Thats what I'm talking about!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Ynwa.

@Mike: So you're comparing god mode in one game to the normal mode in another, not exactly fair.

There's no way this demo was easier than god of war or even equally easy, Berial was harder than about 90% of the bosses in both god of wars.

you thought berial was hard?
it was raining health pick ups.
plus he was very easy to kill. he easily gets stunned and you could stay airborn while kicking his ass.

First off, DMC1 came *WAY* before god of war, second, the dmc4 demo is on an easy mode, there are 6 difficulties. Third, the demo areas appear to be cut up so don't expect consistency, just because the boss happens right when you enter the temple doesn't mean it will happen that way in the full game.

I mean, if you do the timed mission, you leave the docks and get right into the second part of the demo, so yeah.

Note: Some games in my collection are no longer owned, but have owned.

As I only play in SD, does it run at 60fps in 720p or 1080p?

^Of course it does.

Maybe it's just me, but generic "monsters" in a non-descript city with inappropriate and unthematic techno music makes this game just seem a bit silly and amateur compared to God of War. I'm sure the difficulty of the demo was set really low, so I can't really compare gameplay between the two games, but I can say without a doubt in my mind that God of War is presented in a well-thought out way, whereas Devil May Cry's presentation just screams "generic."

I loved the Ninja Gaiden Sigma demo. That first level made the game seem similar to God of War in that the presentation made sense thematically; you controlled a ninja and you were fighting other ninjas in what appeared to be a traditional Japanese setting with appropriate background music. When I finally got the game, I thoroughly lost interest once I started fighting dinosaurs who were apparently called "fiends."

Obviously God of War was pretty outrageous in its own right. But at least it all connected thematically. [/rant]

My Top 5:

Shadow of the Colossus, Metal Gear Solid 3, Shenmue, Skies of Arcadia, Chrono Trigger

My 2 nex-gen systems: PS3 and Wii

Prediction Aug '08: We see the PSP2 released fall '09. Graphically, it's basically the same as the current system. UMD drive ditched and replaced by 4-8gb on board flash memory. Other upgrades: 2nd analog nub, touchscreen, blutooth, motion sensor. Design: Flip-style or slider. Size: Think Iphone. Cost: $199. Will be profitable on day 1.
