Europe... the land of Sony... *sigh

What's to sigh about?

As a diehard Nintendo fanboy it's quite difficult to overlook the unhealthy path sales are takin. That is, of course, 3DS apart.

I hate it when people refer to Europe has the land of sony. How about their console is favoured because its arguably the best value for money? Bluray+all the 3rd party titles+ More 1st party titles then any other system+ Plus free online, all at a very competetive price.

From the success of nintendo with the wii/ds/3DS (All of which outsell/outsold the ps3), its clear that its simply down to Nintendo's failing to delivering s enticing console regarding the Wii U and its launch.

I disagree with your sales for this year and for the later sales for PS3. PS3 SW support for Japan is looking quite bleak this year. What it needs to be able to make large gains on the Wii like you say is to get FFVXIII and others exclusive to PS3. The Wii is at 50% declines and in 2014 or 2015 I imagine the PS3 will be at 50% declines as well not the modest 20% declines. I agree the Wii will drop hard though. Overall yeah the PS3 will make some ground and pass in EU. Western support for PS3 is good this year with a price cut could be quite meaningful sales.

Well, I did say I was probably being optimistic for both.  Though, I do believe my predictions for 2013 will hold true.  And even if the PS3 does drop more than 20% the falling year, it will more than likely be made up for by an even worse decline for the Wii.

As for SW support, there are still games Sony can announce for the PS3 that would cause a HUGE boost for the PS3 in Japan.  Ones that may come this year or next.  Can't really say the same for the Wii, as even Nintendo has abandoned it.

The 360 under tracks is somewhat accounted for here. But there is still at least another 200k on top of say 300k here to account for. The 360 is at least 700k under tracked IMO. I knew it was ridiculously low in Europe and others in the VGC numbers over the last few months of 2012 and said so many times.

An extra 700k on VGC numbers would still mean supply of 1.6m, or almost 4 months supply.

Pretty much.  700k undertracked sounds about right.  I highly doubt MS has more than 4 months worth of supply just sitting on shelves

Well, it showed every last generation consoles (360, PS3 and Wii) are in the declining trend. We need to have the new consoles. Only Wii U is not enough to establish the current generation.

360 did a very good job in Europe in my opinion. Its YOY only down ~19%, just 6% more than PS3 considering PS3 is more popular in Europe.

And in the big 3 regions, 360 is only 0.5million behind PS3 considering it was complete dead in Japan.

Good job, Microsoft.

And good job, VGC!

I'd say max it is undertracked by is 500K.  Probably closer to the 437K I calculated for EU using Nintendo's YOY declines.  And since VGC includes more countries in EU than Nintendo does, it looks like that's where the vast majority, if not all of it, resides.  This would put ~1.88M on shelves.  Which isn't crazy at all when you consider that they had over 2M on shelves this time last year, as well as the fact that MS cut the 360's price for nearly 3 months in the US, which probably caused retailers to buy up more stock in anticipation of high Christmas sales.

So is it still possible for PS3 to have the total shipment figure at 77m at the end of 2012 according to IDC?

Hopefully this shuts up those that claim VGChartz always over- track the 360.

I'd agree, the 360 is probably undertracked by around 600k, but so is the ps3.

Looks like everything is a little undertracked...but not too bad overall!

Here lies the dearly departed Nintendomination Thread.

The market share of X360 in Belgium is no surprise for me =p.

Then again MS did an horrible job here.  One of the most popular Xbox 360 bundles was the bundle with an free digital copy of Halo Reach/Fable III and GEOW 2.   I got that bundle and downloaded the games...My Halo Reach and Fable III were in French and my Gears of war 2 in German.   With totally no option to change the language. Me and a lot of others contacted MS about their problem considering 60/70% of the population native language is Dutch and prefer to play their games in English. (Retail games are all in English in stores).  Ms just responded with 'That is not our problem the responsibility is with the companies who bring that version of the game on Xbla in your region.   So we contacted  Lionhead/Bungie/Epic.   And they then again said it is MS's problem not them.  Parents with children are really the biggest victims because they downloaded games like Toy story 3 and then end up with an game in an other language.
