Okay so I wasn't on the site for about a week because I didn't get around to it, but I have got to say this. Or, I got to vent, if you will.
I more or less beat Triforce Heroes now, at the final boss, and I have to say; this is a terrible, terrible game. Not just for a Zelda game, no, I wished, but terrible even in general. If the Zelda name wasn't attached to this, I would have stopped playing a long time ago.
First there's the multiplayer, I already said this is a mismatch from the start and an experiment that should have ended with Four Swords, but whatever, it isn't fun in this game either. I already anticipated that though, because more often than not in any multiplayer game; people are stupid. Stupid or untrustworthy, unless they're your friends and in your living room.
There's two ways to play, the main game or the 'Collisseum' mode which is just a 1v1v1 battle. This is pointless and to win you only have to run around dodging everybody. Because they'll make mistakes and fall, you win. At least you get materials, but fun?
Anyway, I've mostly been playing the single player mode, which is borderline unplayable. I mean, if you're going to half-ass it as much as this than the game would have been better off just omitting the single-player mode altogether. This game has serious balancing issues, and some parts are realistically impossible without some cheap trick or twitch-switching between your characters. You might say there's a certain strategy involved and you need to put your Links in the correct spot in anticipation, but really it's just bad game design. Then your uncontrolled Links get damaged by things outside of your control and it's Game Over.
Sure, in single-player it's a hard game for a change which is a good thing on the surface. But it's hard for the wrong reasons, unlike how the original, Zelda II or even Oracle of Seasons are hard, this game is hard only because it's frustratingly broken.
It is an unnecessary addition to the series, made worse by the fact that it's advertised by name and placement in the timeline as being a canon part of the main series, and it's a serious mark on the reputation of the franchise. At the moment I'm contemplating whether or not this is the worst game in the series.
But I digress.
My rant ends here. Now proceed with praising the other Zelda games again. I for one won't play Triforce Heroes, once I beat the final boss, ever again.
