Forums - Nintendo - Crystal Dynamics Cast Doubt On Tomb Raider Wii U Port

I think the choice of words in the title are good - it casts doubt, it doesn't rule it out. It's possible that they've been told to talk about the need to do a proper, full job of a Wii U game, rather than being half-hearted, so that when they do announce it, people see it as a real game and not a half-hearted port. But that said, the most likely scenario is that it's not coming... and I'm not too concerned about that.

What I'm more interested in is which game Straight Right is porting to the Wii U. Obvious candidates are Square Enix and Kingdom Hearts titles, but which other franchises are possibilities? Deus Ex?

I'll be honest, I don't know many AAA franchises from Square Enix except the trinity of Dragon Quest, Kingdom Hearts, and Final Fantasy.

Well, they'll be missing out on some major sales!

Unless that was very subtle sarcasm:

Oh well, I couldn't care less right now. I am a huge Tomb Raider fan and this game seems to be an insult to the series. So far it seems NOTHING like Tomb Raider. Might have just made it a new IP.

Read my other posts in this thread. You may be right!

From Wikipedia:

"In serial fiction, to reboot means to discard all established continuity in a series and start over from the beginning."

"As the first entry in a new Tomb Raider continuity, the game is set to provide no correlation to the entirety of the previous entries in the series; a reboot that emphasizes the reconstructed origins of the culturallyinfluential lead character, Lara Croft"

This maybe where your problem is coming from. The game is a meant to be, at the very least, a "spiritual" reboot.

Oh, that explains why most reboots yet seemed to be cheap cash-ins on a brand name^^

When this game fails to be as much of a success as they thought it would be, do not say you weren't warned.

because being released on the WIi U; a console with a fraction of the userbase that either platforms its already being released on, will make all the difference in the world? Riiight.

I hope he's referring to it being a reboot. But it is most likely sarcasm^^
