Forums - Gaming - Jailbreaking Cellphones becomes illegal in the US tommorrow.

Lawl, that sucks. Although I'm not sure if it is legal in Germany either...

How would they even approach enforcing this?
Maybe the police are going to go door to door and check your phones lol

Been away for a bit, but sneaking back in.

Gaming on: PS4, PC, 3DS. Got a Switch! Mainly to play Smash

It seems like some laws are just there for political correctness so that the government can say hey we did everything we could to help the companies. Other than that its just going to be ignored.

Yes yes and a million times more yes!!! Suck it guys.

-Notice: I'm exagerating, not being sarcastic.

-Notice for the notice: I'm serious about both notices.

Like its going to stop people >_>

They'll arrest one or two patsies to scare people, just like file-sharing lawsuits.

Who had ruled that it was legal initially, the same guy?

Anyway, it flies in the face of established consumer law. Anyone who gets prosecuted under this should get the ACLU on their case and smack the big telecoms companies in their face.

Same guy.

Truth is though, it's actually pretty consistant with US copyright law.

For example it's illegal to make backup copies of videogames because it's illegal to overwrite the copyright protection.

Essentially you have legal ownership over the box, but NOT legal ownership over the lock that is keeping the box closed.  You can't do anything to change the lock, because then you would be damaging a corporations property. (The lock).

It sounds stupid and infuriating, but that's more or less how it's being ruled at the moment.

I think it's more... cellphone companies like AT&T will now have the right to sue boost mobile if boost mobile hooks up your AT&T phone to their network.

So it's more about the big established companies using this regulation to bully smaller companies to be stuck with a second rate product, because if they hook up too many phones they'll sue.

I wonder how they are going to enforce this.
Maybe they will put detectors in new phones so that when you try to unlock them the SWAT can break down your doors and windows so they can arrest you? Hmm... that seems about right!
