Forums - Nintendo - Bowser reigns supreme as All-time Best Game Villain

Recently the Guinness World Records committee held a vote for the Top 50 Video Game Villains of All Time to be included in the Guinness World Record’s 2013 Gamer’s Edition. At the top of that chart sits Bowser, crowned the best video game villain of all time. Bowser has been kidnapping Princess Peach since 1985, so it’s nice to see an iconic figure at the top of this list. He won the prize with nearly 20% of the vote, but nearly lost to a cheeky AI system.

In second place was Valve Software’s GLaDOS from the 2007 video game Portal. If gamers have anything we say it’s definitely good taste, since Bowser belongs at the top of this list. If you’re interested in seeing the full top 50, which contains may Nintendo villains, you can check it out on Guinness’ announcement page here.

Something Bowser is finally good at winning... something.

And proud member of the Mega Mario Movement!

fair enough that King koopa is #1

but Glados at #2 though??? Sephiroth should be higher than Glados!!!! TF!!!

I also feel like the list got cheated by adding batman up there. Like come on, that is really a movie villain. let the game villains flourish without the movie villains taking their spots

:P

Edit: yo these motherfuckers have "Gary Oak" from Pokemon red/Blue higher than Sephiroth?

Come on, now. He deserves it.

PS, Hades appearing on this list at all after being in only one game is awesome. He was a great villain. If you don't know, he makes his first appearance by grabbing the fourth wall and tearing it away from the screen...accompanied by this. And it only gets better from there.

Most of these are pretty dumb though, and make me question whether the people who constructed this list know anything about the games they're voting for. Tabuu is from Super Smash Bros, not Super Mario Bros. N is not a villain, and Gary Oak has never appeared in a video game as far as I'm aware even if he was a villain. Zombies -- Call of Duty makes me want to flip every table in my house, and calling the police villains in GTA makes me wonder whether these people even know the definition of the word "villain."

dupe thread. kinda.

I think it's pretty much agreed that Gary Oak is your rival in Pokemon Red. he's the grandson of Prof. Oak (just like in the anime) and looks pretty much identical.

Stop that. Professor Oak's grandson is named Blue, as proven by his multiple appearances outside of the games in which you choose his name. The only time he is named Gary is in the Animé.

Gary is based on Blue, but he is not Blue, and he is not a video game character.

I'll say here what I said on the other thread.

Lol Bowser? I guess the list goes by longevity in the gaming industry instead of uniqueness and actual villainy. Andrew Ryan would be my top pick. The atmosphere of Rapture itself adds to Ryan's evilness, but he was a sick guy. The joker and The Reapers would round out my top 3.

I'm going with intelligence, ability to carry out a plot/plan, and overall effectiveness. Bowser never even killed/got away with the princess so how is he the best villian? The reapers killed millions of people, Andrew Ryan brought down a civilization, and the Joker fucked with everyone, how are they below freakin' Bowser?!?!?!

Opinionated list is opinion
