I've said for awhile that Nintendo needs a wholly owned studio or two to develop games slanted toward an older demographic. If they're shy about the association, they can just create a separate publishing group--it would be separate in name only, really, but it would still keep the illusion intact. I don't really understand why Nintendo avoids other styles of gaming so completely.

On the subject, I think Sony needs to hire ex-Nintendo developers (or developers from similar studios) to create IPs aimed at children.

Did anyone else look at the THQ auction list and think that Nintendo missed some good opportunities? Can you imagine Darksiders 3 as a Nintendo exclusive, for example?

Yeah, I would looove to see Darksiders in the hands of Nintendo (as long as they don't tone down the violence)!

And i don't think Sony COULD scoop up former Nintendo employees: they stay for a very loooong time there...

I don't think Nintendo would promote a Darksiders III, it would steal some sales from LoZ. However I could imagine Vigil staff to help them with the new Zelda.

I actually don't think it would steal sales from Zelda; in that case it already has, and will do so if any other publisher swoops it up. Better Nintendo does it then, so that they might earn some money from the sales stealing.

Yeah, I mean so what if it steals sales from Zelda?  If Nintendo owns both games, the money all goes to the same place.

My point exactly. But I don't think it would steal sales; maybe, maybe if it's released on the same day - but I'd be more worried of Zelda stealing the sales from Darksiders in that case... While they are quite similar in many ways, they are different enough to sustain both franchises.

I'm on Twitter @DanneSandin!

Furthermore, I think VGChartz should add a "Like"-button.

It could work, but you know SCE and MS had to have laid them off for a reason. Some of them might have just sucked (to put it simply) at their job. I don't think Nintendo should just hire on the whim... it could turn out bad. (Though, hiring some people that were laid off could be a great idea.)

Exactly.  Such as what's happened at THQ.  Through no fault of their own, all six or seven of their highly-skilled and talented studios got sold off, or worse, like Vigil, completely hung out to dry.  There's a lot of talent there that Nintendo could use in conjunction with NST and Retro in the west and add it to their growing repertoire of western-oriented studios.

The Screamapillar is easily identified by its constant screaming—it even screams in its sleep. The Screamapillar is the favorite food of everything, is sexually attracted to fire, and needs constant reassurance or it will die.

I agree. THQ would have been a great buy for Nintendo. It would for sure help them broaden their Second Party titles and many people would take notice of a Darksiders Exclusive to Nintendo. Too bad they didn't go for it.

Yeah, I mean if it turns out to be a real issue for Nintendo where they don't want two of their own franchises competing with one another, then they could just alternate every other year.  Darksiders in 2014, Zelda in 2015, etc.  It could work.

It WOULD work, and I would LOVE it!!

I agree with this. I really think that Nintendo should have at least a 2nd party studio for mature AAA games. I think that Monolith Soft is a step in the right direction (owning a first party studio that isn't directly Nintendo), but I want more

I wonder if Nintendo can afford more if there is a proven market for it (hardcore gamers buy hardcore games on the Wii U.) Maybe Bayonetta 2 could prove to be something of a testing ground for the future.

So you want them to spend money to buy studios who have gone under because they can't release games that the public wants and/or stick to a reasonable budget?
