Forums - Sony - idea: PSvita with android

Why sony didn't put the android OS with the PSVita. They could have made 2 bootable OS. One switch would turn on the normal PSVITA OS, the standard VITA OS we already use that is lighter and would play Vita games. Other switch would boot the android 4.x and would similar to the xperia play, being an android device with controls.

While i know they make money from games and not from the device, and they wouldn't get any money from play now store, would still be worth it, since would be way more desired in the eyes of consumers.

Being that the PSvita has specs similar to phones and tablet would be a perfect fit.

The only downside would be the android OS could be a gate for people discovering ways to hack, crack the system.

But still think they could also release a firmware update later on for PSvita giving vita the android OS, peharps after the PSvita gets hacked and the protection is already gone. It would turn the vita in an amazing gadget, competing with tablets, phones etc.

So in the end, what you guys thinking of giving Vita 2 bootable OS?

Meh. Most people probably will already have an Android smartphone, Android as 2nd OS will not make the Vita more attractive.

Wouldnt that pump the cost up more?

No, would be all software, not needing any hardware modification.
Would also compete with tablet and media devices, which have similar price point (some tablets are even $500). So the volume of sales and the decreasing costs each year would be making its price more competitive each year.

How many people have an android device with built-in hardware controls? how many with controls as good as vita?

I know i had to buy the moga for my cellphone only to play a few game, something i wouldnt need to buy if vita had android.

And bought a tablet for a bigger screen to study and media, some people would be sufficient with a 5" screen the vita has.

The thing is - most people don't give a shit. We always have to remember we're the absolute minority. The most successful apps were already developed with touch controls in mind (Temple Run, Cut the Rope, Angry Birds etc.). Compared to those games the ports of "core" games sell like shit. Again, Android would not motivate these people to buy a Vita.

I agree and wish they did that...but this would kill their software sales. They don't get any revenue from the Google Store. Piracy also would be an issue... hardly anything stays locked down on Android.

Vita already has PSM. Just give it time and the great Android and iOS games will be ported over.

Even if we are a minority. The kicker is I haven't bought vita yet, but just bought a tablet of $500. If vita had android I would have paid up to $500 on it easily. For $250 would be no brainer. I am pretty sure I am not the only one.

No? Vita's user interface is great.
