Forums - Gaming - Sony CEO suggests PS4 will release after next Xbox

This is pretty meaningless without any context.

I don't even see how it relates to the 720, since neither it nor the PS4 can be first. If anything, his comment would be about the Wii U.

This piece seems to be trying to create something out of nothing.

Bingo, well said :D

I think he means something like their responce with Sixaxis.. Or was that something we buried deep away and never talk about it anymore.

Tell us! What's with the SixAxis thing?

The idea is to repeat the same mistake made by the PS3, and likely not witout a RROD?  How much more powerful is the next Playstation home console going to be that it can justify launching later?

Few in the industry suggest that the next Xbox and PlayStation will be released more than several months apart. It is also likely that both Sony and Microsoft executives have a clear understanding of their competitor's tech already, leaving less reasoning behind Hirai's claim.

EXACTLY. Both are coming this year at lest in 1 territory. What Kaz is most likely referring to is an early announcement/reveal. Maybe he means Sony plans on unveiling the PS4 after Xbox to take away some of the spotlight.

Thats unlikely. You can't reveal something like that later and then say 'surprise christmas 2013'. That was one of the mistakes sega made. And sony still need to get vita off the ground so they will be focusing on that and release ps4 at some point next year I think.

One more thing to complete my year = senran kagura localization =D

"why go first when your competitors can look at your specifications and come up with something better?".

Did he really say that? That is awesome. lol They'll see what the nextbox is like before settling on specs for the PS4. Exciting!

Kaz is like......the CEO. Hes pretty high up and his word > any PS executive.

If PS4 ends up releasing simultaneously, I dare any PS fans to dig up this news and send Kaz emails calling him a phony lol.

I think he's talking announcements not release.  As in he wants Microsoft to comit to something so they can't copy price or services or something.  Also it's just good to announce last and be the freshest one in people's minds.  They'll release about the same time I think.

exactly.  Now when they announce PS4 Sony can do the whole "xbox says they'll do this, but as you can see we do it better" basically.  Also MS has to commit to a release and everything then.  Also they can point out services and games that they know won't be on Xbox since they would've been announced.

Nintendo is a non factor in Sony's eyes.

Do people really think the xbox is outselling the ps3 in NA because of that 12 month headstart in which it recieved no AAA games apart from Oblivion?

In terms of unit sales the launching early gave it a 7m advantage, but I'm sure sony would rather continue to make as much profit as possible as opposed to boast about ps4 unit sales. Not saying they should launch late, but a few months certainly wouldn't them much harm. People need to realise that 99% of the market does not jump onto the next gen bang wagon as soon as it arrives.

Yeah, because you could totally redesign your console after the product you're up against has launched and still release in time...
