if they could launch at the same price and specs two years earlier? sure, why not. Of course, they couldn't do that so...

if they didnt include a tablet controller its possible and instead hyped it up as a wii with hd grachics could have countered kinect/move.

but the tablet controller is the main hook to the wii u.  Otherwise, it would just be an xbox that plays nintendo games...

true but i feel like kinect had a big part in wii sales declining along with a lack of support. alot of casual gamers went to kinect as there next gen system and if a wii hd came out in 2010 with super mario galaxy, just dance, wii sports hd and a few core 3rd party titles it would have negated kinect and been a continuation of wiis success

Around the Network

Launching a new console a year or two earlier while the Wii was still hot (and not largely forgotten), before hype for Kinect had kicked in and while touch screens were still new and novel would have helped.

However, launching WiiU specifically a year or two earlier probably would have put Nintendo in a worse position. Nintendo took first place this gen by getting away from the complexity of the dual analog controller and making a system that anyone could enjoy. Following that up with a system that then reverts back to dual analog alienates the audience that Nintendo won over with Wii. Lacking graphics/power that significantly outclasses the other existing systems (and it would have been either less powerful/more expense 1-2 years ago), alienates it from core gamers. So all that's left is diehard Nintendo fans - regardless of when it launched.

Rol is right. Supporting Wii until they actually had a good idea for a console probably would have served them a lot better. Certainly NSMBU (or Wii2 in this case) would have sold millions on Wii already and Wii wouldn't be so devoid of games if Nintendo was still supporting it. Still Wii was getting old/stale and a new console was due.

Honestly, same time period but with hardware that isn't well... Crappy. I mean as a techy, it's embarrassing that this is "next gen". If Sony and MS are anywhere near this same level, this generation of consoles will be a HUGE letdown for me. As a PC gamer, I need consoles to advance a lot and the WiiU just didn't do it. Nintendo was just so stubborn, unwilling to let go of the controller they "had to have".

But again, this is just what I wanted from this gen. Hope PS4/720 can meet that, as WiiU didn't do "it" for me.

I guess we could apply that to all consoles?

If the Wii didn't have the WiiMote, it would just be an Xbox. If the PS3 didn't have the Sony branding, it would just be the Xbox 360.

If this console were released in 2008, it would have been awesome.
