Forums - Sony - If the PS4 is not B/C with the PS3's purchased online wares, I will need to be compensated.

Hey guys...that dongle rumor. Is it possible for a cord to attach your PS3 to your PS4 allowing you to turn your PS3 on and play PS3 games from your PS4? Like an HDMI cord and a PS4 app that runs your PS3.

EDIT: Sony, you're welcome. Now give me a job.

Before the PS3 everyone was nice to me :(

If PS4 uses blu-ray then it really has no excuse but to have backward compatibility with PS3 games

a disc format doesn't make it the same system.  The architecture will be different so it will have to be a dongle or something.

How would the PS3's architecture fit on a dongle? That would be difficult

The PS3's cell and RSX chips have already been reduced heavily in size. Given some development basic heat syncs should be able to cool the dongle enough to avoid the need for a fan, amidst not needing an internal power source if power can be routed from the PS4. If not an external power brick.

if there's a USB on the back of PS4 this could work without ruining the look of your entertainment center.  I wish they would just have a SKU for $50 more with BC though.

Wouldn't it still need it's own graphics and RAM alongside the cell?

Yes...very difficult.  In truth, I don't even know how it could happen.  But by strict letter of technical law.....it's plausible....barely....but it's possible.

Well the RSX is the graphics chip and that can fit along side the Cell as I think they do in the most recent PS3 and are maybe even a joined chip. The RAM, I'm not sure but that would add some bulk to it. I honestly don't see the dongle as a good idea. They should either make it internal in the PS4 or use a solution like I mentioned in my previous post.

I would rather they not try, although it would of worked with the PS2's hardware easily, that hardware was very small in the end. But I see sony relying on it's cloud service gaikai instead of actually including BC

Well, no, you're not entitled to compensation, as no game you've bought on PSN has ever listed "PS4" as a platform it would work with. You're not going to get a refund. However, you're fully entitled to feel disappointment and anger, which is what I would probably feel, and to take your business elsewhere as a result.

Where have you heard it suggested that you won't be able to play PSN games on PS4, though?

I came her to say this exact same thing as soon as I saw the title.

this and i still hook up my PS2.
