Forums - Sony - What if Sony goes the WiiU route for memory?

The one recent rumor for PS4 said it would have an SSD (don't ask for link I can't keep them all straight anymore).  What if Sony put in a small SSD and encouraged upgradeable memory.  a 12gb SSD model vs. a 100gb more expensive model would be awesome if they had non proprietary SSDs.  The loading times for SSDs are apparently incredibly low and everything goes faster.  I would buy a 256gb SSD on amazon almost right away but it would be a nice option right off the bat for those that like the 12gb PS3 and 4gb xbox.

Nintendo must not have gotten the memo.

hmmmm true but I've seen PC gamers using them and it seems to work wonders.  Is that a product of WiiU's RAM?

It was just a joke! I'm not sure if it's the SSD or what.

But yes, SSD's are fast. I do know that.

But that's downloading from a server, not accessing data from the SSD. I'd think that would be more contingent on your bandwidth versus the write speed of the Wii U's memory.

EDIT: Just saw that you were joking, my bad dawg. :p

oh ok haha I'm not really a PC tech guy so while I thought Nintendo's flash memory was different I wasn't gonna say anything still though a small SSD would be great even if it's only used for OS and the store to smooth out the UI on PS4, but an upgradeable SSD slot would be a game changer.  Imagine Skyrim loading in the blink of an eye *drools*

I don't think it's a bad idea. I always said I would rather be given a small amount of built-in memory and the ability to purchase my own cheap, non-proprietary memory than to get stuck with a huge price markup on price from the console maker, especially if I don't plan to download a lot of games and never take advantage of most of it. Buying your own memory is much cheaper than being told take it or leave it with built in drives.

would help cut cost., but i'd stic to 1 sku, with 12GBssd
