well, if this is true it more or less confirms that Wii U and PS4 might/will share quite a number of multiplats between them, which could exclude x3ox. Having a controler like that costs money, which means it won't be a huge leap over Wii U, which in turns makes porting games between the two systems VERY logical since they share the same type of controler. ZombiU will either go multiplat, or the sequel will!!

I am not sure, the difference in power might just be too much?

But stop messing with gaming, leave it alone! Just let me play with my nice controller that does everything I want, redesign it if you must, my hands can deal with that, so long as it is still traditional in style

I hope you don't mind me saying this, but that's a very stupid way of thinking. Where would the controlers be today if Nintendo hadn't brought along the D-pad and A/B buttons? Or the X/Y buttons and shoulder buttons? How would we game without the analog stick? The industry thrive because of changes!!

I'm on Twitter @DanneSandin!

Furthermore, I think VGChartz should add a "Like"-button.

Change is scary!

I just don't see any need to particularily change these controllers, I will accept slight changes, but certainly nothing too radical

??

noooooo!

what are you doing to my DualShock?!?!

This alone makes the story very believable:

CVG understands that Sony has paid Immersion more than $150 million in damages, license fees and other costs since the settlement. However, a small portion (initially $20 million) of this was redirected to Microsoft, which owns about 10 per cent of Immersion.

Sony's licence agreement with Immersion ends in 2017, SEC documents show, but as part of the deal Immersion has given Sony an option to expand the scope of the licence for future consoles. However, the complications of the deal may have convinced Sony that it should seek different designs and ideas for its next controller.

Does this mean nextbox controllers are also going to change?

no. why would it?

Because your post highlights the fact that a portion of Immersion being owned by Microsoft, which led me to assume so. But then why wouldn't they? We can't be sure as of yet. If no, how would you ascertain it?

I think that makes them less likley to change....

Immersion is only rumble really anyway.  Thats why Sony originally said rumble was last gen, they didnt want to continue paying the license fees.

Well, whatever if it has buttons, sticks, triggers, d-pads, touch pads, capacitive grips, multitudes of haptic feedback, etc.

But seriously, screw second screens/3D/touchscreen/etc. and screw motion controls.

I get that all that stuff was cool and fun to use when it first came out, but I am tired of forced or awkward gameplay incorporated by developers that are just unnecessary and can ruin an otherwise entirely good game.

If it is optional, then it is fine, but it isn't always optional, that is the problem. And even if there is a problem, developers often won't even patch the option in later, so the game is ruined indefinitely.

The only 100% solution, is to not have those features on the hardware at all.

PS2 did not have any of that BS, it was all about fun games, great gameplay, exclusive games, etc.

I don't think people saw any need to change the joystick back in the 80's... then BAM! Nintendo and Mario SHOWED us that we NEEDED the D-pad. Right now, there's nothing that SHOWS us we NEED the touchscreen, but that might change as well

Well, when I play on my Vita, all the touch screen really does is make me need to clean the screen more, people certainly haven't worked out how best to use a screen on a controller, though maybe with time they will?
