Forums - Sony - CVG sources: Sony to abandon DualShock design for PS4

I would love to see some kind of better switch for the buttons. They feel all mushy and even loose, especially compared to what I'm typing on now a mechanical keyboard has much better feedback for pressing a key. This would drive the cost up though.

All they really need to do is make the sticks bigger on the vita and you have your next controller. Then people can just pick their case. I have the nyko case and it's the best feeling controller I've used sense the Dualshock. The cases could also house the rumble motors and R/L 2 buttons.

Its about time. Lets hope its not another bat-a-rang. That thing was hideous.

Making something ergonomic AND beautiful isn't necessarily compatible. I don't care what the controller looks like, I just want it to feel comfortable when I play.

I don't think that Bat-a-rang looking pad would have been comfortable at all.

well, if this is true it more or less confirms that Wii U and PS4 might/will share quite a number of multiplats between them, which could exclude x3ox. Having a controler like that costs money, which means it won't be a huge leap over Wii U, which in turns makes porting games between the two systems VERY logical since they share the same type of controler. ZombiU will either go multiplat, or the sequel will!!

I'm on Twitter @DanneSandin!

Furthermore, I think VGChartz should add a "Like"-button.

Please be true. The controller is one the worst parts about the ps3 imo. Im so ready for something new to shake things up!

The controller for the PS4 will be the PSV

So they're going with the Wii U approach... interesting...

OT: I wonder what it'll actually be. They've been using this design for quite awhile now.

So this is the new Playstation gamepad?

This alone makes the story very believable:

CVG understands that Sony has paid Immersion more than $150 million in damages, license fees and other costs since the settlement. However, a small portion (initially $20 million) of this was redirected to Microsoft, which owns about 10 per cent of Immersion.

Sony's licence agreement with Immersion ends in 2017, SEC documents show, but as part of the deal Immersion has given Sony an option to expand the scope of the licence for future consoles. However, the complications of the deal may have convinced Sony that it should seek different designs and ideas for its next controller.

Does this mean nextbox controllers are also going to change?

no. why would it?

Because your post highlights the fact that a portion of Immersion being owned by Microsoft, which led me to assume so. But then why wouldn't they? We can't be sure as of yet. If no, how would you ascertain it?

I think that makes them less likley to change....

Immersion is only rumble really anyway.  Thats why Sony originally said rumble was last gen, they didnt want to continue paying the license fees.

Okay which still doesn't rule out the possibility that 360 controllers changing. As of now it yet remains unconfirmed until official announcements. But do you think nextbox controllers need a change?

You got it wrong, this is how it will look like.

Nintendo and PC gamer

I love the dualshock controller. I have small hands for a guy and it's the perfect controller for my hands.
