For emails, pictures, videos and music. A tablet would seem like a right fit and for half the budget. If you must go for laptop/ultrabook than the Asus ones have good build quality.

I pretty much looked for ultrabooks that have a ssd + hdd combo or just a ssd, an intel 3000 series processor, 6GB RAM though 4GB is ok too. I'd probably take the money saved on the $700 or less laptops and buy a 128GB ssd as the main windows drive and leave the big hdd as storage for media.
