If you've logged in recently (Within the last week I think), you should still be able to play online. Just the store will be down, and I think Home.

I'm signed in right now with 12 friends online. I read on their blog something about if you signed in anytime within the 72 hours before maintenance started that you would be able to sign back on. Not exactly sure how that works or why but thats what it said. I just signed in about 30 minutes ago with no problems though.

If you were online in the last 24 hours before maintenance you will be able to get online to play but you won't be able to go on the PS Store, PS Home, & Account Management 

Probably has something to do with what server(s) were in rotation during the last 72 hours. The users that were on those active servers can still get access to online play while users that were inactive for a while can't. Or somethin like that.

You should pay attention to the maintenance announcements.

Store is really good IMO, the only thing I got a problem with is start-up times. It feels like i'm using a Wii U....
