Just to clarify what I was saying. I genuinely think that Microsoft is running a misinformation campaign. Rather then leaking information. Basically they are running a smear campaign in advance. They are perpetuating a story that has Sony releasing a incredibly powerful console this year, and they don't necessarily need to know the details about the machine to know what is financially doable by Sony, and what is most certainly not.

In doing this they have gotten a legion of Sony fans excited about a machine that Sony cannot deliver onto the market. Read these forums, and you can see just how many here believe these rumors without any reservation, and when this god like machine does a no show. Who do you think is going to take the blame. They are going to feel betrayed and blame Sony. Even though Sony never made a single promise about the capabilities of their hardware.

Meanwhile these rumors have converted many a Sony fan into disciples of the pure glory of raw power. This could in the end have another consequence. Microsoft may be converting Sony fans without their even knowing. Sony fans could very well end up arguing in favor of hardware that they thought was Sony's, but was in fact Microsoft's the whole time. Placing them square in the middle of a catch 22. They don't want to change brands, but they could have just spent months arguing that higher raw power is the most important thing.

Microsoft is the brand of raw power. Hell this previous generation they built a console that was so over powered that it literally ripped itself apart. Yet we now have rumors about a Sony console that is aspiring to be that. Something doesn't smell right about this at all.

So Microsoft is lying about how powerful their machine is in order to court PS fans into getting too excited over PS4's power in a bet that Sony won't be able to make a powerful machine so Microsoft can actually release a powerful machine in order to attract those PS fans therefore not actually lying in the first place?

Sounds like a crazy plan

Crazy yes.. BUT it is logical and highly plausible. Then you look at how well MS advertised the 360, they could probably use that same skill to make cover stories.

Yay!!!

If this is true and recent, the nextbox won't be releasing this year. Sony has like 5 full teams working on PS4 games that we know of and even then they might not release this year.

Also Dodece that would be stupid of Microsoft. Too many internet fanboys in this day in age try to be "insiders." Microsoft doesn't have a strong enough voice for those tactics to work anymore. Unless of course they paid off a real insider with a good track record to lie but I doubt they would want something like that going public so why do it in the first place?

Because when you hear a rumour MANY MANY times. More people believe.

This is what you want to happen..

Correction you think you know, and that isn't the same as knowing something for a fact. Since Sony hasn't even announced that they are working on a new console it stands to reason that they haven't announced game development for it. This is pure conjecture on your part, and it is painfully biased. Yes Sony has a number of teams and studios that haven't announced new games. The same is true of Microsoft too. They have studios that have gone dark, and haven't announced a title since their inception, and some of those have been dark longer then many of Sony's studios. You are kind of making my point for me. You are taking as fact rumors, and theories.

Get ready for a serious education. Microsoft has dedicated a great deal of resources and manpower to what they term technological envangelism. So much so that the company has even run seminars to train its employees to shill on their behalf.  Now while Microsoft doesn't have any compunction about buying good press. Their shills are well trained in running the long con. They will work to gain influence and power within online communities. They are perfectly happy to work a dozen prominent communities for two or three years. Until they can earn themselves moderator positions so they can control the conversation, or even shut down opposition.

We know this, because former members of management, and lowly foot soldiers have openly confessed to it after leaving the company. This is a actual job you can get at Microsoft. If that weren't damning enough for you to take seriously. The fact that they have been caught on a number of occassions should, but that is all aside from the point. It is a known fact that internet sites aren't picky eaters. They will repeat anything that they come across. Anything that they can use to fill up a news section. Which is why we have a shitload of rumors. It doesn't detour them in the least, because they get rewarded for spreading rumors.

Hey I have first hand experience with this on these very forums no less. Ask around some are bound to remember. I picked up a crazy ass rumor on a back alley forum, and shared it on these forums. I even qualified my opinion on it as being pure bullshit. I just thought it was a interesting idea. That didn't stop these sites from pulling it, running it, and spinning it. They literally have a serious case of Pica they will eat anything they find on the ground. Whether it is news worthy or not. Anything to get a hit.

So don't tell me that someone with ill intent can't play these fools. Most of these people aren't real journalists.
