Forums - Gaming - EA Calls Fox Out on Insulting Mass Effect Inaccuracies

As some people have said before me, it's not like Fox is the only news source that does this. While it doesn't excuse what they did, I do think people are being overly harsh. All the major sources do that sort of thing. Most people here have less of an issue with those because they cater to their personal world view. The same "people who watch Fox do so because it says what they want to hear" can be said of people watching CNN, MSNBC, and others.

Nah, people have more of an issue with Fox News because they do it more often.  In just about every story.  They just don't know how to fact check.

 But it's like they say in the Newspapers.  Inaccuracies on page 1.  retractions on pace 23E.

Ironically, I actually agree that fox has a lot of issues with its reporting. But what I disagree with is the assertion that it is any worse than any other station out there. The same is true of their slanted reporting. And despite your previous post which said for me to believe so I would have to be a "really really conservative republican"..I'm simply not. I'm an independant or at least that is what every internet test tells me. That and the fact that my mom still gives me a nasty look when we discuss politics (she actually is a really really conservative republican).

The fact is that nobody gets reliable news despite what they like to tell themselves. Everyone likes to think "Oh well the news that I get is unbiased and awesome...its all those other saps being lied to and propagandised." Well guess what? We all are, including YOU. It comes from everywhere. I don't care where you go, what you read, or what you watch. The fact is that you are going to be getting biased news and information, produced and written by people who make tons of mistakes on a daily basis. Thats humanity, we slant things to our views and we make mistakes, you take a microscope to any person or organisation and you are gonna find things that make you sick, there isn't a single news outlett thats been around more than a week that doesn't have at least 5 dirty scandals that we know about...and probably another 50 we don't know about...yet. But just like high school someone always get singled out...people really don't change at all...we just pick new outlets for our anger and immaturity.

That pretty much sums up why I find this whole thing amusing. And just to say it again, I'm happy about EA's move, they did the right thing and were absolutely justified imo.

Let be honest they know that adding boobs, profanity, and even the mature rating in aim for kids as it gets their attention.

Everyone understands that kids are attracted to these things. But at the end of the day its the parents job to keep track of their kids. All EA can do is try to stay compliant with the ratings sytem and produce a product that their audience will enjoy.

Parenting is a thankless and difficult job, but it has to be done, and it has to be done by the parent (hence the name).

They're all dirty, but some are less dirty then the rest. Of the three major news networks Fox is the worst... as their storys and takes on the news more often farther out there compared to every other news network i've seen.

So it's either them, or everyone else has some massive conspiracy. (Which many fox news viewers like to pretend is the case.)

Of the three US news networks i'd say MSNBC is the least biased.  A good way to measure it is that it has the worst ratings.

If I had to choose one of the three major networks though I'd go with MSNBC.  They seem to be in the middle of Fox news and CNN... and also have the worst ratings.  So if they are catering to a certain demographic they suck at it.

Oh please. EA knew what they were doing. If the truth to be known they wanted someone to make a controversy over the game as there is no such thing as bad publicity. The thing is the next developer/game has to go farther than the last one to product a "shock" value to appeal to the youth.

If Fox News is so anti-sex, then why do they employ a pervert?

@Kasz,

They are all just as dirty as the next, some are just better at hiding it, some just get more scrutiny. This goes back to my statement about how everyone likes to think that the news they get is better somehow.

@Smidlee,

Wow, sounds like you just have EA pegged. So tell me again how these 10, 11, 12, and 13 year old kids are supposedly getting the $50 to buy the game? Oh from their parents? Yeah well good parents ask their kids what they are doing with the money..and then, assuming they even give them the $50, they follow up and make sure that they spent it on what they said they would. I hardly see how a kid lying to their parent to get the money is EAs fault, the kid is already lying to his/her parents before he has the game so something is already wrong with this picture. And if the parent can't be bothered to check up on their child's video games every now and again then the problem rest with them.

EA, like most people on this site, understand that your game buying public is a lot older than it used to be. There is still a large demographic that is under 18, no doubt, but there is also an extremely large demographic in their late teens, 20s, 30s, 40s, and yes even 50s who buy these games. Long socially complex interaction based gameplay doesn't appeal to a younger crowd, they are in it for the explosions and gun fights, so if they were really aiming at the kids here you'd be seeing more of a rambo take on the game and much less social interaction.

Blaming this on EA is basically just an excuse not to deal with the real issue, that everyone loves to ignore. Parents need to step up and do their job and stop laying the burden for every little thing on society at large.

@NinjaguyDan,

If you're taking those at face value then there really isn't much to say. You've already made up your mind, have fun =)

Fox News can go DIAF for all I care.

LEFT4DEAD411.COM
Bet with disolitude: Left4Dead will have a higher Metacritic rating than Project Origin, 3 months after the second game's release.  (hasn't been 3 months but it looks like I won :-p )

Of course all the news channels twist facts, but the thing is that fox news has actually been shown to omit stories that they think make the conservative side look bad, such as giving as little coverage as possible to Cheney shooting a guy, even though it didn't really make Cheney look bad.
