Forums - Nintendo Discussion - Gaming on a LG 42PC52 Plasma

Does anyone game on a LG 42PC52 Plasma? I'm looking forward to buy one and I would like to hear some impressions first.

I know that Plasma TV's are better as there is no ghosting that you get on HD LCD, but I have never used this model before

You should be fine. Plasmas have excellent color depth and refresh rates, so they're actually perfect for gaming.

@ dazmando: "Ghosting" on LCDs is mostly a myth. If you get a decent-priced one, you won't notice it.

"'Casual games' are something the 'Game Industry' invented to explain away the Wii success instead of actually listening or looking at what Nintendo did. There is no 'casual strategy' from Nintendo. 'Accessible strategy', yes, but ‘casual gamers’ is just the 'Game Industry''s polite way of saying what they feel: 'retarded gamers'."

My dad has a 55" LG plasma and there is a Wii hooked up to it. Everything looks and runs great. Get the component cables. I have noticed that it looks a little better when the Wii is hooked up with component but the Wii settings are set to 480i instead of 480p. I have no idea why?

I never use plasma screens for anything, they are completely inferior in all things HD, is my experience. Price difference has narrowed, and energy consumption and lifespan make it directly illogical to purchase a plasma now.
It's only "market filler tech", LCD's dominate ww and will succumb to OLED within 10-12 years I'm sure. Plasma's are out of the equation as far as most consumers are concerned.

That is a thing of the past, as is the marked difference in colour tone, contrast and price. There's no reason to own a plasma anymore, unless you're dying to replace it after 5-6 years when a haphazard of logo's and images are burnt into it and colours are fading.

Ghosting is only a factor on panels with 8ms or more response time, and such panels are no longer produced/distributed.

They have lower resolutions though, so all in all good LCDs are better for gaming.

Meh, some people said in another thread that Plasmas are best for gaming, now you people say that LCD.

I don't know what to buy now. I have to pick from Samsung 32R81 (32'' LCD) and LG 42PC52 (42'' Plasma)

Have a look on avforums.com or another specialist site, they're going to have experience of the specific models you're talking about.

The big problems with plasma are image burning, and the fact that over time the colour can fade. Resolutions dont match up to LCD either.
LCD does have its problems too tho... such as artefacts etc. Each ahs their pros and cons, but i would go for LCD... its the safe bet.

Why do you think most manufacturers use LCD and very few use Plasma?
