the % of consumers that know about the dev comments is so very low...and he is talking about your average gaming consumer, not the hardcore researching consumer

1/ damn, sorry, I was focusing on ur second post, not the first one
so for ur point about the 40gb, even if it is written on the box, I want to believe you :
some people buy the 40gb and don't know it can't play the PS2 games
BUT
it is a massive disapointement and do they want to sell back their console ?
or
is it just a minor disapointement that will not change anything in their purchase choice ?

2/ about the brandname, I NEVER stated that the PSX brandname was weak in France. In fact, I believe it is THE stronger followed by the Wii.
But the problem is not the strong PSX brandname, the problem is the WEAK Xbox brandname !
And about NA, remember that Xbox is american and the Xbox1 sold pretty well in NA (FPS console ...).
The PSX brandname is strong in NA BUT the Xbox is too.

3/ Many people think the RROD is well know by the customer and it explains the low Xbox360 sales of 07. I believe it is wrong : the same no brain that buy a PSX because of the brandname dont know a lot about the RROD : they just dont see the Xbox360 with or without RROD ...

Even the PS2 was not as bad as the Xbox360 is in term of stability.

a) i'm not dreaming about ps3 failure rate; i would like for ps3 to not fail...i don't want any console to fail or any consumer to have to worry about returns or buying replacements...i don't drool over the rrod articles like ps3 fanboys

 b) i'm talking about ps3 vs ps2 and his comment that 'consoles should last 5 years' when ps2 definitely did not last 5 years...hopefully the ps3 will not suffer the same fate, but we didn't know about how bad the ps2 would be in its first few years...it was later on that it became apparent (after warranty unfortunately)

==> they dont buy a Xbox360 too, they dont switch, they will just wait for more games and cheaper price.
I doubt someone that want to buy a 400$ console will stop buying because it can't play the last-gen games ...

I think Sony improved the issues the original PS2 had with regard to drive vibrations (loose screws) and lens dirt. The DVD issues of the 360 is really in addition to RRoD issues.

With regard to the 360 there are many people beyond their 10th console within only 2 years of time, the PS2 has been on the market for much longer. Can you provide any concrete data with regard to percentages? The only figures I found so far is:

"As an example the Sony PS2 had a return rate of between 1 & 2% The PS 3 which has only been in the market for 6 months is less than 1%."

But is it the French speaking or the Dutch speaking side that buy the PS3? The two regions are quite different as far as I know.
