Exactly why Luigi is in the lead. Luigi is almost always in the shadows, so people love him because Mario stereotypically gets "all the love". I say Luigi. Nintendo obviously values him more because he's always the unlockable one out of the 2. So Nintendo values him more, even though they dont show it.

Mario & Luigi: Superstar Saga revealed Luigi to be a self-centered coward. On the other hand, Mario is a total non-character. Seeing that Luigi actually has a personality I'd say that he wins by a landslide.
