Forums - Nintendo - Wii U: A General Look - Next-Gen & Marketing

A lot of people post marketing ideas and other stuff about topics, but I have to say, OceanJ, that yours are actually quite good. I really like your point about the speakers on the gamepad. They add a surprising level of emersion to games and even the general menu screen. Hearing the backing sound bounce from my surround sound to the two speakers right in front of me and back is very cool, as is hearing Alfred talk to me when I'm Batman. They've tried to market the emersion using ZombieU, but I think they could do a better job using the imagery you've suggested. I'd like to see it. I honestly think they aren't too concerned with marketing right now since they know they'll sell what they make since it's a Nintendo and there's a Mario Bros on it, but they need to step it up in the coming year if they want WiiU to become huge. Hopefully they do what you suggest.

the problem is not the quality of the ads but the timing
they were launched so fucking late

There's a theory floating around that Nintendo's purposefully held back the Ad's, waiting until they're needed to move inventory.

It wouldn't surprise me if the rumor is true.

Nintendo provided a minimum of ads before launch. Once the numbers of Europe started to lag, i started seeing a lot more Wii U ads. So they are clearly reacting more, then anticipating. Which is probably the smart move.

Nintendo is mostly a money-smart company. If they know they can only get that much inventory shipped, then why would they put money down for ads.
