With 3DS out and Nintendo being King of all Handhelds so far and Sony 1st Handheld the PSP standing up to the mighty DS and Now having Vita with great specs and tech (despite selling low), Should Microsoft make a handheld to compete agaisnt the two?

In America its no suprise X360 is the #1home console (soon to pass wii's sales by next year) so should they release their own device against 3DS and Vita?

If yes then What Will It be called? How much can it sell? What it'll look like? Which Games to be Included?

Discuss!

A few years ago I would say yes... But now I think it would be stupid of microsoft to make a hanheld. Smart phones and ipods are slowly eroding the handheld market. Microsoft would just lose money if the entered the handheld market.

It would be interesting to have the big three competing in the console market and the handheld market, but Microsoft won't enter the handheld market, they're focused on the Windows phone.

Te answer is no.

However only in terms of Handhelds. Microsoft are already in thee mobile space via phones and tablets. Using XBLA. You can earn chievements playing on WP8 and Win 8 tablets.

Ive got achievements for angry birds. How many handhelds can say that?

What handheld market?

No, for a few reasons.

1. Microsoft doesn't have the strongest first party right now. Sony had a larger more active 1st party arm, and they mostly failed to keep the PSP filled with 1st party games. It seemed a lot of the times that it was only their Japanese studios releasing games for it

2. Unlike home consoles, japan is the strongest market, where MS is the weakest. Releasing a handheld without having a firm foothold in that marketplace would be suicide really :3

3. There are already way too many options out there now. We have the Vita, 3DS, ios, and Android. The price to get into the marketplace to compete against these popular brands(+vita =p) is too high. It would be better just for Microsoft just to focus on their phones

No, the Handheld market has been dying past two years to the point that it's doubtful there will be another pure gaming handheld next generation.

Former something....

No.

Handhelds are strongest in Japan and Japan doesn't care about Microsoft game systems. Not to mention countless other factors, not the least of which is Microsoft/Xbox doesn't have the types of games that would translate to system sellers in the handheld market.

Microsoft has proven that they can do just fine concentrating on the home console market and I believe that Sony would be better suited to do the same (my opinion).

They have some games that would fit perfectly on a handheld like Banjo, Conker, Kameo, pretty much any rare game, and they could put some bigger titles like Fable on it and all but the thing is Nintendo dominates this market so much that it would be almost impossible to penetrate the handheld market now. Sony has taken the leftovers and then mobiles will have the social market. Basically at this point it would be MSFT vs Sony for a very distant second place.

Nah, too late to go into the dedicated handheld market.
What they should do is release a small portable controller with good battery life that can pair to win8 tablets.
