Forums - Sony - James Bond Can’t Fix Sony as Japan Electronics Scrape Lows: Tech

It's stupid to assume Samsung has irretrievably captured the tv market. Samsung came from a low sales base then took over the market. Any company can do the same in any product category including mobile phones. Consumers are generally gullible so all you need is a sexy product and good marketing. There's nothing magical about this. The only reason for S, S, and P to exit things like tv is if they believe they've lost the ability to come back. They haven't really because it's all about perception.

Looks like none of these huge Japanese companies can compete against Samsung. Samsung is so huge now, but I wonder if it will follow a similar path like Sony's and eventually go into huge loses. I mean, it was only a few years ago that Sony was such a gigantic and powerful company, and now they're finding it difficult to survive.

tis the circle of life. Orbis Vitae... ;)

Sony is on the mend, the new CEO at the helm has a plan and hes sticking 2 it, he knows what he has 2 do. But this article is just saying the same as all the others with no new content and just worded different. It would be better if it had some new updated information.

Well, both Panasonic and Sanyo are projecting big losses for the fiscal year.  Sony is the only one projecting a profit.  While its not a huge profit, its still a move in the right direction, so hopefully they can reach their goal.  Out of all three of the companie listed, I think Sony is in the best position.  They have already started restructing the company and getting rid of things they deem to be money wasters (TV screen manufacturing being a big one), while taking on a few they deem to be money makers (mainly mobile devices and Gaikai).  They also have a lot to fall back on if one area doesn't work out.  If they can just turn their TV division around to just being profitable, then they would be fine.  If they can't, I'd imagine Hirai will just bow out of that area.  Which if they did, again, they would be fine.

It did.  It was clearly indicating that analysts are predicting another poor quarterly report from Sony based on sales so far through the holiday season.
