Looks like none of these huge Japanese companies can compete against Samsung. Samsung is so huge now, but I wonder if it will follow a similar path like Sony's and eventually go into huge loses. I mean, it was only a few years ago that Sony was such a gigantic and powerful company, and now they're finding it difficult to survive.

Well, both Panasonic and Sanyo are projecting big losses for the fiscal year.  Sony is the only one projecting a profit.  While its not a huge profit, its still a move in the right direction, so hopefully they can reach their goal.  Out of all three of the companie listed, I think Sony is in the best position.  They have already started restructing the company and getting rid of things they deem to be money wasters (TV screen manufacturing being a big one), while taking on a few they deem to be money makers (mainly mobile devices and Gaikai).  They also have a lot to fall back on if one area doesn't work out.  If they can just turn their TV division around to just being profitable, then they would be fine.  If they can't, I'd imagine Hirai will just bow out of that area.  Which if they did, again, they would be fine.
