Is there a way to shut off the screen? Silly question maybe, but I find it kinda annoying, especially if I'm playing in a darker room to have this bright light coming off the controller when I'm trying to pay attention to the TV (as when I'm playing NSMB U on the U tablet).

From a gameplay POV, to be honest I kinda find it underwhelming. You can really only pay attention to one screen at a time. Some of the asymmetric stuff in Nintendo Land is alright, some of it's kinda meh. The dual screen stuff that really seems to work well all seems to be based off the old Pac-Man VS. ideas (the Luigi's Mansion, Mario Chase games).

My main use of the second screen is being able to use it to browse Youtube and then use the curtain effect to zap a video to the TV for friends. Honestly, I feel like that's hands down the most brilliant use of the controller.

I like being able to log into Youtube and watch a video walk through or go to a FAQ for the same game you're playing if you ever get stuck in a spot too.

Yes, there is a way to turn off the screen. Just press the home button, go to controller settings, and turn it off.

The fuck!?  It was that easy!?

Yeah, I also recommend lowering the default brightness to increase battery life.

I guess I never went to controller setting via that screen.  I went to "settings" from the start menu and tried to lower the brightness multiple times and I couldn't find the setting.  The screen looks beautiful, to me, but at night, it's like staring into the sun!  You don't know how much you've helped me, today.  Thanks, dude!

Muy bueno and pretty good are basically the same.

Other than that I find it kinda meh to be honest. Most games do not uses the gamepad in revolutionary ways, and the gamepad looks worse than the TV (Altough that's understandable) I didn't noticed any lag in the input which was surprising to me.
Overall I just prefer to stick with a classic controller, or even a wii mote (Yes, i do like the design of the wii mote)

I agree with you that the gamepad looks worse than the TV.  It's not as razor sharp, doesn't have the same refresh rate, and you can't see the finer details.  But, like looking at a girl through blurry glasses (and don't get me wrong, anybody reading this post--the Wii U gamepad screen is not blurry), it also hides the flaws.  I play a game like Trine 2 or NSMB U on the Wii U and I prefer the gamepad because it makes things seem even less flawed than they actually are.  I don't mind being lied to.
