I agree with you that the gamepad looks worse than the TV. It's not as razor sharp, doesn't have the same refresh rate, and you can't see the finer details. But, like looking at a girl through blurry glasses (and don't get me wrong, anybody reading this post--the Wii U gamepad screen is not blurry), it also hides the flaws. I play a game like Trine 2 or NSMB U on the Wii U and I prefer the gamepad because it makes things seem even less flawed than they actually are. I don't mind being lied to.
